Colt/mirage question

Postby Keith » Fri Mar 25, 2005 7:28 pm

Friend of mine a hatchback mirage x, 95 i think, its a 1.5 DOHC.
He wants to change the engine to a 1.6 mivec version. Anyone
know if that would go in without any problems?

Kevin, your friend will have a few problems.

Firstly, only the 2.0l engines are Mivec and I don't think that would fit in the engine bay of a Colt.

I don't know the size of a 1.6 or 1.8 FTO engine but would there be much of a gain from going to the trouble of fitting a 200cc bigger engine. It would make more sense to get a bigger colt engine and fit that.

Tell him to be a man and just buy an FTO.

Keith,
Really you'd be better off asking this question on the Irishmoc site. Here's a link to a motor for sale....looks like this conversion can be done.

I don't see why it can't be done - especially as the same platform car (Colt/Asti) already has a 1.6l mivec engine option.

I have even seen a Colt with the 2.0V6 Mivec shoehorned in there - but I'd say the 1.6l mivec would be much more straightforward.

I would agree with Pergau though - the better option would be to sell his car and use the money that would have been spent on modification (engine, electrics, brake upgrade etc) to buy an Asti or Colt mivec or better still - an FTO.
