dash lights for a gr triptronic

Postby johhnnie » Thu May 04, 2006 8:44 pm

hi folks

ive had my fto for about 3 months now but never noticed until browsing about that the rev counter should have had markings on it for the gears,

after taking the dash out and some enquiries it seems that someone has fitted a manual dash into the car.

anyways i bought a dash from ebay it has the gear markings on the rev counter but at the back of the dash its like there should be 8 holes for bulbs to show the gear markings ? . these holes are still sealed .

what i want to no is how do i get it to show what gear im in cause i tryed fitting bulbs in the 8 holes but the only 1 that lights up is the reverse when i change into reverse...

help me solve this

Hi Johhnnie

When you say that the holes in the instrument binnacle are sealed, are they filled or is there tape over them or something? I'm assuming that the bulbs all work, did they come with the binnacle or sis you buy them seperately. It would be useful if you could post a pic of the underside of the panal so as we can get a better understanding of the problem.

I wonder why a manual binnacle was fitted, is it possible that the previous owner did it purposely because he couldn't get the bulbs to light up either? I don't believe thats theres a gearbox sender for forward gears, if there a sensor and its dodgy, it should show up on a diagnostic test. If you're happy enough messing around with the dash, you should have no problem undertaking a diasgnostic test, see the link below:

hi cj

there is holes in the back of the plastic binnacle for what appears to be for fitting the 8 twist in bulbs but the holes are covered by the flexible electronic board , this flexible board has all the copper leads running through it for all the other parts to receive power , it also has the copper power leads running to the area where the 8 gear lights should be but these parts were enclosed.

i have punched the holes into it so i can fit the bulbs but the only 1 working when i move the gears around is the reverse light.

ps : will try to get some pics of it tomorrow
