cutting out , low idle!!!

Postby paul2508 » Tue Aug 24, 2010 8:35 pm

as above, last night i installed new set of el dials into my car, i disconnected the battery to do this .must have been about an hour tops disconnected.when i connected the battery ,started her up all was good, dials worked etc. this morning tho when i was headin to work and my revs were lower than usual when idle.and it gets so low that when i clutch the car the needle just drops just hovering above 500 rpm then the "reds" flicker then cuts out. it starts up no problem. no crazy idling or anything, the needle isnt hoping up and down or anything.its just ever since i pit the dials in. would iave resetting my ecu seems i had the battery disconnected for so long and its after picking up on something in the car?? first i thought it was the stepper motor but thought id ask you guys first

cheers.

Paul.

How long do you have to hold revs for?

Hi,

I had the very same problem, removed neg battery terminal, to install el dial kit.
Installed everything i had too, put back on battery terminal and soon after while
driving the car cut out at low revs.
Didn't clean anything, think the ecu just re adjusts itself after a bit of driving, as ecu must
have reset itself as battery was disconnected for over an hour or so.

normally until there is some heat in the car, them it drives ok. the car was great until it went off the road a few months ago when I put my evo back on the road for the summer, it was started every couple of days and run great without fault. at the end of last month I was going to put it back on the road so I started it up to run it over to garage for fluid chnages ready for the winter started fine and warmed up correctly. a mile from the house in traffic it cut out, started straight away first turn of the key, but not with steady idle. been like that since sat in the drive. cleaned the stepper 3 or 4 times now, done ecu reset etc. dont know anyone local to me with an fto to borrow stepper, so will have to bite the bullet and buy a new one before she goes back on the road.
