The guy who recently fixed up a few panels on the GPX has a 944 that hes imported from the UK. It needs a bit of work which he's doing himself, they tend to sell for a few quid more over here, as opposed to FTOs costing more in the UK! BTW, this one looks better value for money.

My understanding is that servicing costs can be quite high, but the same could be said for the FTO at times. Parts should be readily available from the UK, some research on the web should give you an idea of costs. Worth a look: http://turborob.iwarp.com/
