Customs generally dont care if it's marked gift or not..
I've gotten stung a few times at this stage..
ps3 controller - 20e, value about the same..(Really p'ed me off that one..)
dvd player and changer - 50e, value 500e ish
Camera - 70 or 90e cant remember, value 700e ish
Laptop - 50e, value 200e ish..
those are the ones I can remember..I'm sure there's some kind of system they use to calculate the charge based on the declared value.
I've found that customs see right through the "gift" option - if the items aren't gift wrapped and come with an invoice.
Oh and they dont disinguish between new goods and 2nd hand stuff either..
Anyways - It's illegal to try and bypass customs charges, just something to keep in mind if you're ever asked.
