Irish Custom Charges

Meant to order a few bits and pieces from Ebay and noticed the sellers advice to check the custom charges .
Now I want to order a few things from the US , Taiwan ,China and UK. ( i know that uk being in EU doesnt require any tax paid extra)
How much are the actual charges ? has anyone paid them before to see roughly what I should expect?

21% if they are marked as a gift or trade sample "No resale value" you can usually avoid that

Yip, you pay VAT. which is 21% or 21.5 anyway in and around that.
When I got my new conrods they were 1800 and was charged €380 when they landed at my door.
Had the pistons sent from the same company as a trade samples and arrived with no fee's as they were marked as no trade value

When I brought in the FTO I paid VAT of 21%, and then because it came in from outside the EU there was a 10% inport duty also, which was calculated on the total of the car + VAT. Not sure if that will apply but check it out.

I've ordered loads of stuff from different places and never paid anything on them. Most sellers won't send them as gifts either. You take a chance, sometimes you're caught, sometimes you're not. Oddly, I think if they are heavy goods they are noticed more as well, something heavy makes you look twice

i've order a lip spoiler for the car , sime HID's and LED's bulbs , and a few bits. totat around 100 pounds.
I've asked the sellers to mark them as gifts . I'll keep things updated here

Customs generally dont care if it's marked gift or not..

I've gotten stung a few times at this stage..

ps3 controller - 20e, value about the same..(Really p'ed me off that one..)
dvd player and changer - 50e, value 500e ish
Camera - 70 or 90e cant remember, value 700e ish
Laptop - 50e, value 200e ish..

those are the ones I can remember..I'm sure there's some kind of system they use to calculate the charge based on the declared value.
I've found that customs see right through the "gift" option - if the items aren't gift wrapped and come with an invoice.
Oh and they dont disinguish between new goods and 2nd hand stuff either..

Anyways - It's illegal to try and bypass customs charges, just something to keep in mind if you're ever asked.
