Upgrading Audio

Postby JD » Thu Jun 16, 2005 9:14 pm

Hi All,
I have a good quality Kenwood cd/radio at the moment with the standard fto speakers. I want to increase the power and sound - nothing mad Its just when I turn up the cd too much I get a distorted base sound and I like my music loud.
I want to keep the kenwood - it was a gift - I know nothing about putting in an Amp. but I was wondering if it is just a matter of buying an amp and upgrading the speakers and wiring it all up. I only have €400 to spend and I'd really appreciate advice.
Thanks
JD

JD, a 4 channel amp is the way forward, have a look at this recent post for more info:

IMO, you're wasting your time sticking in an amp if you're gonna keep the speakers in the front doors, go for an uprated set of componants.

Thanks CJ - Yeah, I want to upgrad/e the speakers as well.

Is it simply a question of buying a 4 channel amp (say 1000w) and four 250w speakers and wiring it all up (I won't have a problem wiring it up if I get the right components)?

.........and finally....if I got 1000w amp is there any problem getting much higher watt speakers e.g. 4 x 500w speakers?

I will have a Kicker Bass Box from the US with 2x10" subwoofers and a US Acoustics amp to drive it for sale soon. This box also has mid range tweeters that can be switched on or off just in case you want to hold an outdoor disco.

It fits perfectly in the boot and I can still fit my golf clubs and trolley in the back as well.

Unfortunately the pending new arrival (and associated stroller/pushchair) will not also fit and either the Bass or the FTO must go - go figure which it is !!!

Will be submitting details in the for sale forum soon

My 16 yr old son, who just started working for the summer bought them for me for Fathers day  All those years of hard work work have finally started to pay off

The Amp is a TOXIC TX1000W (4 X250W OR 2 X 500WATT)
Pioneer speakers, the large ones (6x9's) are 330w three way - model TS-A6911, I can't see the 6.5" inch ones at the moment but they are pioneer as well.
