FTO Oil Temp Gauge

Rory, on average, how long do you find it takes the oil to get up to temperature? As regards the vacuum gauge do you find it useful at all or is it just for show?

Ciaran, i also have a temp gauge, i find it really depends on how hard your driving, but just at 60/70mph your talking a good 6-10 miles

Just wanted to breath a bit of life back into this topic, has anyone installed an aftermarket oil temp gauge, if so, where did you mount the sender and what did you tap into on the electrical front. I'm thinking of installing one on the blanking plate under the stereo.

I spent a saturday afternoon covered in oil fitting an oil pressure gauge but the space was too tight to get a spanner in and i couldnt get it to seal.

I was in a skyline with about 20 gauges not so long ago, How you could keep track of them and drive I dont know!!!

Ya, the simple 'warning light off = good, warning light on = bad' ethos definately has its up points!

Was looking at my clock the other day alright though thinking it would be the perfect spot for another gauge of some type... was looking at a friends MX3, he just put a 323 GTR (?) 1.8 engine into it, with turbo and all, but he has a couple of extra gauges on the a-column too, stuff all over the place. When he turns on his ignition it beeps and makes all kinds of toons with the gear thats in there, turbo timer, air/fuel computer, stereo itself prob makes some kinda noise, and car kit!

Still like having a clock on the dash though, so I know how late I am for work! Fast as the FTO is it can't make it there before I leave... Would have to put a clock somewhere else, although might be one on the radio...

It measures the air pressure at the manifold, the more you floor it, the more the needle rises!

Hehe - So in effect we already have a type of reverse vacuum gauge ! - only my fuel guage would tend to fall faster than a vacuum gauge would rise.

SteelRoe - As per CJ's question - do you find a vacuum gauge of any benefit on an FTO? The Oil Temp gauge I can understand but not sure of the Vacuum gauge benefit - though this is coming from someone with a turbo timer on their car.

I wish!

No turbo - but the timer (turbo or NA) is really just used for warming up or cooling down the car. Far more important on a turbo engine but it has its uses on the FTO as well - And its a nice feature to be able to lock your car up after a hard drive - leave the engine ticking over for whatever time you set and just walk away. Handy in the winter mornings if you want to warm up your car while you de-ice windscreen/have your breakfast etc.

Jeez - the little things that keep us amused - eh!

Its a pretty simple enough one - a FET TB202 - nothing fancy - note the stupid Japanenglish writing on the cover - a Greddy it is not.

Fortunately came with the car - But I'd say they shouldn't cost much more than €120-€150.
