Suspension

Postby sinlessgunner » Thu Feb 21, 2008 6:34 pm

Hi lads me again with another query....

Ok I'm biting the bullet this weekend and I am taking my car to a mechanic to sort out the suspension. Would do it myself but don't have the right tools or know-how. I rang a few and they all said they were going to charge an extra €30-€50 to actually diagnose the problem though because I'm not 100% sure. I know for definite the bushes need replacing but I'm not sure what else needs doing.

Is the FTO normally rough going over bumps, potholes etc.? I ask because when I'm driving on a bumpy road the car feels very shaky and rough. I read a review somewhere though that the FTO is like this anyway. On a smooth road its fine.

Oh and the other day I was parked at my mates house and his drive is at a slant. I reversed in so the back was lower than the front. When I got out of the car it made a horrible squeaking sort of sound. This only happened that one time though.

So is there anything I need to do other than the bushes? Does what I described mean it needs more or is there any checks I could do before I get ripped off!!

check the front page for Paul Nolan's phone no. and give him a ring . he will sort out the bits for you at a reasonable price plus he usualy has the bushes on stock.

''horrible squeaking sort of sound'' -> my best guess it's that was your hand brake (pads on the disk) so you wont have to worry about that.

when you parked the car in your m8 drive it sounds like ya didnt have the handbreak on fully and the pads wer creaking off the disc. maybe handbreak needs adjusted. i have changed and upgraded near every bush in mine. the only ones i got a garrage to do was the rear arm outter and inner bushes and the trailing arm bushes as these need pressed into place. everything else you can do yourself as its really straight forward... have you checked your tyre pressure is 32psi at front and 29psi at the rear?? mine feels funny if the fronts are low
