diffference with decat

Postby paul2508 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 12:27 am

how much of a difference is there in sound if you put a decat pipe on a stock exhaust, my exhaust seems to be standard just with a big bore rather then the twin pipe on the back

Don't know how your exhaust can be standard if as you say you have a big bore at the back (tailpipe?).
The decat will add a little extra bhp but mostly it'll add better sound.

The difference with a decat is indeed noticeable, but in my opinion for the better. Really brings out the engine burble at low revs.

If you want quiet, don't decat, dont upgrade induction, don't upgrade to big bore exits.

I have a blueflame and a decat and to be honest its not loud... which I like!!

The decat really does free up the car! Id go for it!!

You'll probably want to get it up on a ramp if the cat's never been off. those bolts are very hard to get off the first time and its hard to get leverage if you're lying under the car. you may need an impact gun to loosen the bolts.

As for storing it, just stuff some tissue paper in either end and wrap in bubblewrap.

Prob better getting up on a ramp, easier to see what you're doing anyway I'd imagine.
Its a job I'm going to do to mine when I get back too. NCT prob first thing to do cause I think it'll be out. But after hat she comes off.

Earlier FTOs are fitted with an overheat sensor for the cat. the Camskill one has provision for this.
Image
Some other decats don't have somewhere to put the sensor, if you unplug it you get the overheat light on your dash.
The decat will obviously never overheat - it's just somewhere to put the sensor.

Personally never done it, but as far as I know its a bolt on bolt off job. But there are plenty that have done it so they'd know better.

Not if you get the Camskill one and transfer your heat sensor over to the decat. If your car hasn't got a heat sensor (many facelifts don't) you'll need to put a bolt in there instead.
It's actually easy enough to remove the bulb on the dash.

I put my cat back in yesterday cause I have mt NCT next week. Pretty handy to do. The bolts weren't near as tight as I expected. I was surprised at how much it quietened down the car. Made a massive difference.
