Flywheel BHP seems incredibly high for a NA Mivec with just breathing mods. Do you have the at the wheels figures?

We'll have to set-up a rolling road day for our next meet and compare with other club cars.

I'd say they are at the wheels.... As we were at ttm a few months ago and their dynapac didn't read from the fly as its a calculated guess that dosnt take any transmission mods into consideration

That bhp couldn't be an at the wheel figure Dan - transmission and drivetrain losses would see this figure drop significantly but the at the wheel figures (if you can get them) would give a much better indication of your FTO's performance. If you are getting anywhere near 170bhp at the wheels it will be an excellent result.

The vast majority of dynos read from the wheels and add various calculations to come up with the flywheel figures.

Must be from the flywheel, but even 209 at the fly is a pretty remarkable figure, and at 8000 too, doesnt it usually run the highest at 7500 for the mivecs?

your right dragonheart. bhp should peak at 7500rpm and should certainly be less at 8000rpm than 7500rpm. The fact that there is almost 10bhp increase between 7500rpm and 8000rpm seems wrong to me? I would love to see the scan of the actual print outs. remarkable stuff. If my FTO was making 195bhp or more at the fly I would delighted. 209bhp is unreal. I have the same setup btw I think. GP version R with filter, milltek decat, and 5Zigen exhaust. wouldn't say its 200bhp though. maybe 195 - 197ish.

Not neccessarily true - I have seen different peak power outputs on FTO Mivecs dependant on the mods done. From what I can remember I was getting peak power at 7750rpm at the last rolling road in my manual GPX.
They did the run in 4th gear and it was actually the 120mph speed limiter that interupted the power curve at 7750rpm.

what was your power at 7000rpm and your power at 8000rpm? was there almost 10bhp in it? maybe Im wrong. Makes me all the more interested to get my car dyno'd in the next rolling road meet.

I don't have the graph to hand - but as mentioned because my GPX was still speed limited the 4th gear peak power was interupted at 7750rpm at 193.5bhp (164bhp at the wheels). If it had been allowed to rev to the limiter in 4th I think I'd have picked up another couple of bhp.

Its probably worth mentioning that as most rolling roads tend to take the reading in 4th gear that it would be useful to have a Manual Mivec FTO delimited to get a true picture of the power graph.

I suppose you have to allow for =/- 5bhp error too with miscalculation transmission loss etc. I'd be 100% up for doing a run though. :) :o

To be honest all that matters is what's at the wheels.... The flywheel calculation can be all wrong...

The only propper way to d it is do an engine dyno and really who's gonna take their engine out to get it dyno'd just to find out what your loosing throught the tranny

Well - I would say that the wheel bhp is the most accurate assessment of a cars performance - i.e. the amount of power your car is putting out to the driven wheels. For instance while a Tip GPX will have similar power to a manual GPX the at the wheels figure will be much higher on the manual - hence the manual will have better performance.

Of course all rolling roads will give slightly different bhp figures dependant upon rolling road and other factors such as temp/humidity/volume of air to intake etc. The only way to accurately access the FTO's power is to put all the FTO's on the same rolling road in the same conditions.

The ultimate barometer of a cars power (and power to weight) would be something like a 1/4 mile sprint.

We should try and get the FTO's on a rolling road at the next meet and then compare power figures to 1/4 mile figures at the 1/4 mile event in Limerick in September.

Maybe suss out what Saturdays Martin has free in April - also mention there will be a mix of FWD and RWD cars there. See if you can get a rate for 10 cars.

Martin will know the club, we've organised a couple of RR sessions with him a couple of times over the years. I'm sure another wouldn't hurt...

BTW Dan - Let us know how you get on with the BHP readings in Westward.

From experience - they certainly don't overestimate bhp calculatons - so whatever figures you get there should be quite accurate.

Its unlikely that your FTO lost any power Dan - its more likely that you got a more accurate assessment of your FTO's power. Excellent torque figure though.

Put up the graph when you get a chance.

What changes are you planning to take your FTO beyond 200bhp?
