Eagle F1's or Toyo Proxes?!

I know it's been discussed before but..... I am getting new Tyres when I get delivery of my new 17 inchers for the S2000! (Ordering today....wah hey!!)
I have narrow it down to between 2 tyres:

Goodyear Eagle F1's
Toyo Proxes T1-S

I have Eagles at the moment and like them...got 12k miles at the back wheels. I have heard good and bad things about Toyos.

Anyone have stories??

I have toyos on the front of the FTO and they were absolutely unstickable for the first 3months but now im getting wheel spin at junctions so im not happy with the wear on them,

i had toyos on the front of mine and got fcuk all wear on them, not impressed. i've got avon ZZ3's, which aren't bad.

Of the two I'd go with the F1 Eagles but having said that I've no experience of the Toyo's - but virtually all performance tyre tests I have read in the past year or two have rated the F1's above Toyo's.

I've had a couple of sets of F1's previously and they're a great tyre.
However theres little to choose between F1 Eagles, Pirelli P Zero Nero's and Bridgestone S03's (on my FTO at present). I'd go for whichever of the above three is the best price.

I have read that you shouldn't go away from the stock setup as the car was "dialled in" using these tyres...but loads of owners go away from the OEM.
So, you rate the s03's highly in wet and dry yea??

I can't fault the S03's - very different feel to the F1 Eagles - on a par with the F1 Eagle in the Wet but I feel the S03's are probably a bit better in the dry (not that we see a lot of dry roads). However the F1 Eagles seem better able to cope with bad surfaces / potholes etc.

Probably the best way to put it is - if I was doing a track day - I'd go with the S03's or P Zero's and if driving on sh1tty wet B roads was my main concern I'd be driving on F1 Eagles.

Another option to look into is the Dunlop SP Sport 9000. I get good wear and grip and am on my second set. These tyres often seen on BMW 5 and Merc SL

Similar cool tread pattern as Toyos etc too.

Think I paid 105 each if I remember correctly from Tallaght Tyres.

The last time I was having tyres fitted (Pirelli P6000's) I asked the tyre guy (who I trust) about the Toyo's and he was of the opinion that the side wall on these tyres is relatively weak compared to other similar spec tyres. Easier to get budges, etc on them.

The sidewall is an area that is very important to handling - too weak and there will be too much movement in the sidewall under hard cornering and too strong (like all run-flat designed tyres) and you have no movement which is as bad for handling as too much. There is a balance that the best tyres have - F1 Eagles, S03's etc but a lot will also depend on the application - e.g. powerful FWD (FTO) - Powerful RWD (S2000) or powerful 4WD (Scooby etc) and the handling characteristics of each car.

Anyone use these?

I had Toyos on my old GS and GR and they were excellent - the only annoying thing is the sidewalls seem a lot bigger / higher than other tyres of the same ratios, i.e. the 205x50x16's I had fitted to the back of my GR seemed to have a higher sidewall than the 205x50x16' tyres fitted to the fronts (can't remember the make of tyre on the fronts though).

Excellent grip wet or dry though and they lasted a long time on the GS (cue the lack of power jokes )

Not sure about the Toyo Proxes but have to say Eagle F1's have savage grip in the dry but when it rain's it is very scary. I think Pirelli have the best tyre around can't fault them....

Just got a full set of 17" Eagle F1's on the car last week (replaced a set of 15" Pirilli P5000's) and I have to say the level of grip is something else. More importantly though, the sound levels are a lot less on the F1's. i can actually hear the radio now at motorway speeds
