classic radio

Postby kona » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:36 pm

my radio was pinched last week and i have always loved these old radios, does anyone have experience of them,

what stations can be picked up?
how would it work with electrical aerial?
is it possible to use an ipod transmitter with them?

they look good and are simple, plus i dont think any scumbags will take a shine to it

Shouldn't be much of a problem with an electric aeriel except you'd need to to fit another switch to raise/lower it as the ford one won't have an output.

Fm transmitter won't work As that one will only pick up long and medium wave

Good point, no Radio Nova but on the upside, you'll pick up Sunshine Radio and Atlantic 252!

I too am a big fan of the classic push button car stereos, I remember I had one beside the bed when I was a youngfla, it was connected to a car battery in the bedside locker and hooked up to an aerial hung outside the window (the only way I could get Tommy Vances Friday Rock Show on BBC Radio 1).

As per Colm, there should be no problem hooking one up in an FTO (with button for antenna), you may need to fashion a surround to get it to fit in the dash and trick about with some wiring though. There feck all on MW or LW these days though....

Edit: This guy has the right idea but theres plenty of work involved. Also worth a look.

thats some good research there, but if i was to go down that route, the radio would be too costly and id be afraid of it been robbed.
them old radios were bullet proof, maybe they will come back in style some day, until then ill just take the one out of the old car

Why not mount a modern headunit in the glovebox (or arm rest) & use a remote extender, then blank off the din slot ?
