Car behaving badly

Just back from lunch and the FTO is behaving really badly right now - wierd....

First up it stalled at traffic lights after about 2 minutes driving - wonder could that be the stepper motor?

Second, after driving for about 15 minutes I was slowing for some red lights and "bang" car drops from 3rd to first with a really heavy thud. I was in tip mode and it felt like there no drive - in fact I first thought the car had cut out - I moved it into D and pressed the loud pedal and bang, car suddenly gets drive and shoots forward. next I put it in N and back to D and exact same thing happened - nothing and then suddenly drive. Didn't do it again on at all after that (ok only drove for another 2 minutes) but I had no trouble changing from D to R and to D again - nice and smooth. Wonder is this the tipbox telling me it's on the way out ? Scary, expensive thought..... maybe I'll do that oil change tomorrow instead of saturday.

I wonder is there anyone in dublin who could do a manual conversion if I source the gearbox, ecu etc.....

I had exactly the same symptoms in my cars gearbox (it's a manual one though). It was because the bracket was broken. It's possible that this could be causing your gearbox to slip as well...
