Rear knocking

Postby kevinod » Wed Mar 22, 2006 2:48 pm

I've been working on the car suspension etc a lot lately, I had 2 probs... a knocking on the front right, and when I went around a bend at any bit of speed I was getting a knocking from the back left.

After spending all weekend (Fri, Sat and Sun) replacing bushes and a top mount on the right front, etc. I noticed that a couple of the bolts holding on the exhaust to the rubber hangers were missing.

Popped into Fast Fit at lunchtime on Monday to buy some bolts off them with the intention of fitting them that evening. They put it up on a ramp and it turned out that 3 bolts were missing, and I think there was only 4 or 5 in total anyway! It was bolted onto the cat and one side of the backbox, and that was it.

They put in the 3 bolts and replaced another bolt which almost definately wasn't a stock one. I reckon the previous owner had an aftermarket exhaust on there...

The result is excellent, no more banging when going around bends, going over little ramps in and out of the business park no longer has the big clatter it used to have unless I was doing <10kmph, just such an improvement. If they took any money for it it would have been the best money I've spent on the car so far!

Anyway, another good experience with those guys... Fast Fit by St Finbarrs GAA club in Togher. They still have that FTO back box in stock that they're looking to get rid of too.

Everyone take note - heres an example of how its its not always worn ARB bushes and droplinks that cause 'suspension' knocking noises ( it is most of the time to be fair :)). At least you got it sorted in the end Kev...
