not starting HELP!!!

Postby robertshearman324 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 5:48 pm

hi this is my first time on forum hope you can help

i have a fto. parked it up for the night went to start it the next day and it wouldnt go.. called the aa and they said it was a sparking problem. so it went of to a garage, he told me the ecu was faulty he said there was no power coming from it . so i located another one from breakers and he put it in and this one had power but then he told me the amplifier was faulty so he got one of those, and it still not working he then says that there must be burnt wirers touching some where in the wiring loom, a week has gone by and i went there today to see how things where going and hes now saying that the wires are ok , what he didnt realise is that there was a capacitor in the loom which would make everything go to earth. he says he has had a very good auto electrician in and he says he cant do anything untill the ecu has been tested,(the breakers asure me that ecu is fine and was of a running car) the problem he is facing now is there is power from ecu but doesnt have enough current once it reaches its next destination . if any one has any ideas it would be great.. also am i at the wrong garage? oh by the way the bill is getting silly which obviously im not happy about as i feel his diagnosis is a bit not right help help thanks ...rob

That sounds like a pile of horse to me - if it is indeed an eletrical problem I'd recommend getting your own auto-electrician to look at it.
Has this bloke any experience working the FTOs?

Welcome to the forum btw - I'm sorry that you had to introduce yourself under these circumstances.

Where are you located? Maybe there are other members in the area that know good mechaics/electricians.

What spec fto do you have?

He has probably spent a fair amount of time scratching his head trying to diagnose the problem..
Do you know if he's checkedthe obvious thigs - like spakr plugs & leads? (it's unlikely that they all fail) but it's more to find out if he's been methodical.. Has he got a diagnostics tool- it might tell him something..althought I'm not sure how god they are with electrical issues.

Guys?

When you turn on your car is the Engine Management light on?
It's the orange one on the top left of the dash.

hi, yes he has diagnostic equipment i agree he has spent alot of time scrching head all doing something hes had the car for 3-4 weeks but it just seems to be one thing after another surely it cant be all these things seems to me somethings wrong and he cant find it. what hes saying now is the voltage from ecu is correct but doesnt seem to be enough current, thats what hes saying now. from ecu to ignition amp, to wiring loom now we are back to ecu which was working fine in another car? not sure about engine managment light as car not hear.

Disconnecting the battery for ~30 mins will clear all the error codes.
But RE the Engine Management light, is it staying on?

hi due to get car back from garage next couple of days (unfixed) is there anything i should look for which may be the problem, i will disconect battery for a while and see if that helps i can also check engine managment light once i have it back. the problems seems to be that there is power from ecu but once it gets to the ignition amplifier (which is a little black box) it drops and the amplifier is brand new from mitsubishi, does anyone no wether the voltage from that is continuos or pulsed or does any one have any ideas thanks.. rob..

Need more info.

Does the engine crank when you turn the key?
Have all the large main fuses been checked under the bonnet?
Does engine manage light go out or has it registered a fault

hi, car still not going . i spoke to some one today and he told me to disconect the clifford alarm as he has had some experiences with cliffords and he was confident that the alarm was the problem although i think it may or may not be the problem has any one else experienced any thing like this before. im running out of options and the scrappy is looking more likely
