FRONT PADS

Postby macspratt » Tue Sep 06, 2005 9:19 pm

Hi ,can anyone recomend a good front break pad??
IM having probs with the front left caliper binding now,i changed the right one about 3 months ago and its been perfect,,looks like the left has give up the go as well.
just in the process of sourcing a pair of calipers of RICEROCKET .
I think they are just standerd pads in mine at the moment so decided to upgrade them at the same time.
ive read that some can be rather dusty so wana keep clear of them,,,,just seen a set of mintex fast road on ebay for £14. 99 any ideas.?
seems to me that the standerd pads are a bit crappy ,they are a bit squeaky when u release light off the break"is this common on standerd pads or is this just a GR FTO problem?

THANX GUYS AND GIRLS!!!

i dont know about the mintex but they are a good make.I put ferodo premier pads in my gr front and rear and found them very good.U should up grade your disc's.The brakes can be bad when high speed braking when std. They over heat.

Danny's right - have a look on camskills website - they usually have all the good stuff

I've EBC Red stuff pads on the front, and they seem good, not really dusty at all. They're the only set I've tried so far, set that was on when I got it needed to be replaced at the time.

As the lads say you'd be as well off replacing your discs too... the uprated pads with std discs usually ends up with either warped discs or depositing muck on the discs and makes them feel like they're warped.

I'm thinking I'll go for the EBC dimpled grooved discs when I change...

Just on the subject of brakes... I recently put steel braided hoses on mine, and it helps a bit more again. Not a difficult job, just takes a bit of time.

Kev.

If you are replacing calipers now would be a good time to invest in a set of GPX twin pot calipers. I use green stuff pads all round and they give good "fast road" performance. If using Red stuff pads you will probably need better than standard disks - they are quite hard and will take a little bit of use to warm up.

Mintex pads come in a variety of grades - some excellent - some not so good - I have used Mintex 1144's and found them to be quite good but pricey. IMHO EBC Greenstuff is a good value and good performing performance pad for standard disks.

Just remember that if you go with GPX calipers (which is what I've done) you'll also need to change your discs too, the GPX discs are a little bigger than the GR/GS discs, and the brake pads are a bit different too. GPX is only different on the front, back brakess are the same on all FTOs.

I've sworn by Pagids for the past few years. Green Stuff and Red Stuff are rock solid and I found the braking experience much less harsh when using Pagids on drilled/grooved discs.
