Whats legal, whats not?

Postby Dragonheart » Sun Jul 22, 2007 11:10 am

I have a few little questions, I'm planning on doing a bit of work to the car, now that I have a bit of time to myself to do it, but I was wondering about fitting mods and the dreaded NCT. Maybe some of the mechanics amongst us would be able to help out with these.

1 - Neons: first of all, which are better, neons or LEDs, I would be thinking neons, but others seem to think LEDs, I know the neon tubes are more fragile, but I think the glow is better. I have a set of purple which I had for my old car but never got around to fitting, does anyone know would a place swop them for blue? Secondly, I know they're not road legal, but can they still be fitted to a car for the NCT, just not turned on?

2 - Flame kit: Where do I get one? Not the little thing that looks like a fart but a proper kit that blows it out maybe 2 to 3 foot, and can they be got in colour. Like blowing out blue flames. I know they use loads of petrol but its something I'd like to try out nevertheless. Secondly, are they easy to remove for the NCT, cause I dont think you can get away with just disconnecting these babies.

3 - Last point, is there anything that can be done to increase the engine horsepower. Yes, I know, fit turbo, fit intercooler, the usual stuff. The cost of these is unreal and to be honest I don't think the FTO has room under the bonnet for anything else! I have the induction kit, the exhaust, she's lowered, good deep tyres, the usual stuff, but none of these add serious bhp to a car.

Any suggestions?
Thanks. Sorry about the long post.

Number 3.

Try to fit Nitro System. The cost is from about 700 to 1500 depend on what you want :D and gives your baby 25-50-100bhp or more, on short distance ofcourse  but I see you may like gadgets like this.

None

They look naff and you WILL melt your rear bumper

Loose weight from the car, improve your suspension and brakes - theres no easy way to significantly more power on the FTO without spending big bucks - the furthest I would go engine wise would be cold air induction, iridium plugs, decat exhaust + manifold and downpipe, upgraded walbro fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and piggyback ECU

Gotta agree with MyFTO here....... NEONS - a no no, so naff, FLAME KIT - an even bigger no no, even more naff.
This is an FTO man, enjoy it as its meant to be, not with disco lights and a flamin BBQ coming out the back. NOI, just my own opinion :) :)

OK, so maybe I lose the neons and the flame kit. But the power thing; I have a lowered suspension, full exhaust system, induction kit, I dont want to decat the exhaust cause she's close to NCT emissions as it is and decatting would prob put it over, and only give a small bit of extra hp. NOS would be nice, looks damn bloody complicated though! And I dont think the NCT would go too well with that either. I recently started using Shell V-Power and it does seem to make a small difference, but maybe if I throw in some of that additive into the tank might do too. How about chipping? Can you get chips for an FTO? And yes, I do enjoy it as it is, but I have a nemesis, Glanzas, and for some strange reason there's one in particular around that I always come across and he gets me every time coming off a roundabout! Misterbishi might know the one I'm on about, white with a dump valve, seems to do nothing but drive around and he's starting to annoy me! Not being childish but I can see him smirking every time and I'd like to wipe that grin off his face once and for all!
