New car

Postby soc » Tue Aug 24, 2004 9:23 am

Looks like the move is nearly complete, just waiting to agree a price for my next car and I'm actually feeling a bit sad but unfortunately it's just time for a change.

It's a slate grey 2002 vw golf gti with 38K miles from ballsbridge motors. It has all the bits I was looking for - leather heated recaro's, cdplayer, cruise control etc. I'd like this to be a bit of a street sleeper so I've also been on to Westward Eng up in Enfield and they reckon with a Revo ECU upgrade I'll see 195bhp with about 220-230ft/lbs of torque all for €750 so I plan on heading up there in the next 2 weeks. The only other thing I need is a set of lowering springs.

I've also had a few calls on the FTO so I reckon it might go soon enough - - which will be the end of an era for me (4 years happy motoring). Ah well..... but I'm sure I'll stay active on the site anyway cause I've no doubt in the years to come I'll want to experience the FTO buzz again and will look at getting a last of the line manual.

Cheers
Shane

Say its not true! Oh well, I suppose there comes a time when you have to get a 'sensible' car, as long as you're happy with it, thats the main thing.

I've a friend in VAGE (http://www.vage.ie) who has a 1.8 Golf GTi, tells me he's got it remapped so it gives 204bhp...

That's what Revo quote alright - apparently the 2002 (or later) golf 1.8t engine is a detuned version of the audi tt 1.8t engine which can happily be chipped to 200bhp without affecting reliability or needing any additional work - but the guys at westard said that this is a bit optemistic and you're really looking at 190-195bhp. I plan on getting a rolling road print out to see what it is before and after.

Unfortunately it is. But like you say, there comes a time when you have to get a 'sensible' car and for me this was the best blend of performance, comfort and price - insurance is only 1052 fully comp and the price (I'm hoping) will be very low (not saying anything yet in case I jinx things)....

Btw, I'm heading out to Dave McCanns this morning to get wheel alignment done - I think the tracking must be way out cause the steering wheel has been off centre for a few days now.

Hehe, only as long as there's no bends cause I doubt the Golf will come close to the FTO for handling (even when lowered).
