Noisy Alt belt/pulley

Postby sinlessgunner » Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:48 pm

Hi all,

Noticed recently that, especially in wet weather, there is a horrible sound coming from the engine bay on startup. Once the car has warmed up and is driving a bit it disappears. It's a kind of rubbing sound, high pitched in dry weather and in the wet its really loud. Wet belt on the pulley's I suppose. It's definitely coming from the alt belt but I'm not sure if it is the belt or pulley. I suppose replacing both is the best option. How would I check to see which it is?

If I need a pulley does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks,

Aaron

Just tighten the pulley, that'll tighten the belt, its a loose belt thats causing the noise I'd imagine. Unless they're ready for changing then theres no need to replace them.
