pick your brains

Postby sideshowstimp » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:32 pm

just got my gpx back after months of toil and troubles but still no mivec, was wondering how long does it take to warm up enough for mivec action?

Once my car has ran for about 5 minutes, its probably a coincidence but its the amount of time it takes the engine temperature needle to hit the middle mark, then its ready.

If you run the car and then disconnect the negative terminal from the battery does the car still keep going ?

Only issues I have ever seen with Mivec not kicking in have been alternator related - so try this out again and let us know.

It is either a dodgy alternator or engine temp sensor. I the alt new or a recon. Did you by chance buy it on ebay??
The sensor for the temp gauge does not control the mivec, the sensor for the gauge is the single wire connector next ot the stat housing.
The sensor for the engine control is the further back behind the stat housing, 2 pin connector.

See drawings below.
First one shows temp gauge sensor (1 wire)
second one shows the sensor to the engine ECU

thanx again, yes got from ebay but is brand new. Before it was put in, the car would bounce of the rev limiter now it just starts to choke but around the same point limiter would kick in.

hows everyone? following on: took the car out after work today was showing fault code 24 could this be the reason for all my troubles? after the fuel guage dropping below 1/4 of a tank it wasn't liking revving past 4,000 but in neutral would rev past 7,000 is this a light at the end of my dark mivec tunnel?

How low was the oil? The MIVEC works off of oil valves in the engine.
