Brakes feel more wobbly than usual

Postby IrishPhoenix » Tue Feb 07, 2006 10:26 am

Just the last couple of days the old brakes feel more wobbly on applying. I'm noticing a bit more of lean to the left when i take my hand off the steering wheel for a second. And a bit of slipping? Could this be tyre pressure? I'm going to check it later but just throwing it out there.
You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.

Sounds like a build up of muck on your discs? What pads/discs have you?

I found with redstuff pads and std gpx discs I got that, but once I got out of the habit of keeping my foot on the brake at lights (handbrake instead  ) they've been much better.

Its possible you could have some residue built-up on the disks - try braking hard a couple of times from speed and see if you can get rid of it (careful now :) )

Could also be tyre pressure if they are badly out of line.

I actually managed to flat spot one of my tires the other day..

Bloke drove out in front of me while I was mid-over taking... had to thing very fast.

Stamped on brake.. passenger side locked up... Not entirely sure why..
car does pull to the left when I brake..

anyways....
now it's all thumb-thumb-thumb when I drive.. and it looks like there's a chunk gone from my tire..

Getting new rims & rubbers on sat. :-) must be semi-presentable for the meet - yay!

I had to stop pretty quickly yesterday morning on the way into work, some ghoul passing out on a 'straight' that wasn't long enough. Smell of brakes right after - discs gotta be clean now!

If it's pulling to one side on braking you might want to check your calipers, that you don't have a seized pot on your right side. If only 1 was biting on the right and both on the left you'd get it pulling.

I would bet any money you have WARPED brake disks. If you get them to a engineering workshop and on a lathe they will sort them out.
I have done this to several FTO's.

This tends to happen a lot in cold weather after braking hard.
