what is the tip gearbox really?

Bad idea I'd say, prob the same sort of thing as putting it into neutral when driving, cant be good for the gearbox.

the neutral to drive thing would work, but as said that isn't to friendly on gearboxes and automatic clutches and they arn't the nicest thing to have to replace

and still, it would be like just dropping the clutch, so you'd have to get the revs just right....

I've found it drives best from a rolling start

the tiptronic box is a torque convertor gearbox as opposed to a Selespeed type setup with an automatic clutch.

it varies a bit from driver to driver - but I'd around 15sec-ish it's possible get well into the 14s - but it takes a bit of car-dieting..

there's a few videos up in the "meets" section from the last 1/4ml run in limerick..

it was good fun..

I've run a 14.7 in a manual GPX but its not easy. As Maud says a little bit of dieting is necessary - preferably from the car as well as the driver.

It may work but you risk blowing the torque convertor to pieces in the process. In terms of 0-60 times, you're talking the guts of 1 sec slower over the manual box. First gear in the manual is not a whole lot of use in terms of torque delivery, its even worse in a tip.

Yeah, it can be done CJ,
just tip the tiptronic selector forward before you take off. only supposed to be done in snow though, puts strain on box.

Can be done, but again, puts the box under quite a bit of strain, wouldn't recommend it personally. You don't get the same level of initial power in comparison to lifting the clutch on a manual.

If I remember correctly, thats a test that is done to check the gearbox is healthy (think I read it in the manual). With the handbrake up and your foot on the brake, you rev the car and it shouldn't pass 2500rpm if I recall...

Edit: Also remember being told by the mechanic that he could get the torque convertor (I think that was the part!) remapped to provide more low end power torque.
