Postby Helen » Thu Aug 18, 2005 10:56 am

After the meet i decided i want side skirts and also the clear indicator lenses, i was talking to MF Fto and he said where i could get them but i have forgotten,
Also i need a new exhaust as my one is rotting. i tired a main dealer but it will set me back about €800, has anyone any ideas how i can get a nice sounding exhaust that will not cost an arm & a leg

motorsportworld.co.uk for a Mongoose exhaust - these are great value and a brilliant exhaust. They sound much better than the standard - well worth it.

If you really want throaty, then stick in the cat bypass also - this combination really does the FTO V6 justice 8)

Helen,
On the exhaust front check out camskill. For a second hand exhaust you could contact steelroe.
Also I seem to remember Kevinod mentioning that some exhaust place in Cork had an fto back box, that they were selling off cheaply -cancelled order or something. That was a while back though.....
here is the thread

Ya, that was Kwik fit, Togher, good few months back but they *might* still have it. At the time they just wanted rid of it so it may well be gone though.

Wrt to the clear indicators, there seems to be 2 options
- Funkyproduct/Funkystyling supply a D-speed clear indicator - http://www.funkystyling.co.uk/parts/item_detail.php?prodID=807
- you can buy Mazda MX5 clear side repeaters (lot cheaper), slice the lenses off each, paint the inside of the FTO repeater silver (or metallic black as someone did recently), and stick on the clear lense onto the FTO back - see the how to here: http://www.abcadsolutions.com/Clear-repeat-mod.htm

Just on the exhaust, if its just a small hole you have you can use exhaust putty (one of my 'surprise projects' Friday evening before the meet) to fill the gap.

Just my 2P worth -

Helen - IMO your first mods should be lowering springs - the GS sits very high esp at the front - wouldn't bother with side skirts unless changing front bumper and rear spoiler - It just wouldn't look right.
The clear repeaters are a nice mod - I just stuck on the MX5 lenses straight without slicing lens etc and they look fine - otherwise bite the bullet and buy the D speed lens from Funky Product.

As for the exhaust I'd try Steelroe for that twin exit he has from a GS - send him a PM.

I would say between the Lowering springs, Clear repeaters and twin exhuast you'll have a sweet FTO and it shouldn't set you back more than €500 max for the lot.

Nice job, I didn't look too closely but I didn't spot the clear ones were just added on top.

Not added Kev - Replaced the full unit - its a 5min job - popped out the FTO repeaters - trimmed a stud from the FTO light bulb holder (its a 4 star shape rather than MX5 3 star shape) and then clear siliconed the unit into place - completely watertight - the only thing is that the FTO units are designed to go into a recess on the body panel - the MX5 units are designed to sit flat on the body panel - they are slightly larger but can be angled downwards into the recess - look fine to me - http://www.fto-ireland.com/meets/Dublin ... 00715.html

Good mod for 20-30GBP depending on what MX5 repeaters you buy.

Ah ok, misunderstood... I remember it now... wheel spinning hamster is on 'safe mode' today, left Cork for Dublin yesterday at about 8am, arrived home at 2am last night after watching the Ireland game. :smt015
