Turbo at the Docks 06/06/07

Postby Aidan » Thu Jun 07, 2007 10:00 pm

Was at the docks yesterday with a friend collecting his MR2 when I happened to stumble across this little beauty waiting for some lucky fecker to take it home.

I'm almost sure it was a GPvR.

It has DE2A on the windscreen so it's a 1.8, started out that way at least...

:smt017 I'm sure that car was mentioned in another thread a couple of weeks ago.

I guess it could have a Lancer GSR engine thrown into it ...or maybe the turbo parts from one.

I often wondered if this could be done ...according to these links both the Lancer GSR and the FTO GS have the same 4G93 engine in them:
http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/mitsubishi/fto/1999_8/15614/
http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/mitsubishi/lancer/1998_10/19192/

Even if the engine is then left in standard GSR trim that would give you an FTO with slightly more BHP than a GPX with about 40% more torque ...and turbo drama

The fto GS has a 4G93 SOHC, the GSR has a 4G93T DOHC (T for turbo)

Ive always been miffed why they have the same engine codes even though they are fairly different. Im not sure but i think they have the same block, but they put on the DOHC head for the GSR....

Thats pretty much it, same bottom end and block, apart from that, they're differnt beasts.

Its not that difficult to turbo the GS (at least in comparison to the V6 models).
