I'm presently very happy with the FTO (GR) I'm driving, however I'm in a situation where I have 2 options.

1. Spend money on getting new alloys side skirts, general upgrades for the car.

2. Sell my own and use the extra money to buy a newer FTO.

Also I'm happy with the tip but i'm beginning to side towards te GPX manual model which I could probably get for the extra few quid.

Is it worth spending a lot of money upgrading a Gr when the GPX offers more.?

If you drive a GPX would you ever think about going back to a GR?

Do ye all have these crisis pop up from time to time. Or am I just talking Bullsh*t.

IMO - One of the cheapest ways to upgrade the performance of a GR is to just upgrade to a similar year GPX manual - I had a GR Tip - bought as a really clean 20K mile example and it doesn't compare to my present model GPX - the mivec engine is really sweet to listen to - esp with Decat exhaust and induction sorted - it does feel a nice bit quicker too - If you want to "vive la difference" then you should come to tomorrows kart meet and drive my car.

As for changing - It really depends on whats out there for sale - the vast majority seem to be GR Tips for some reason but I'm sure you could import a GPX manual for very reasonable money - there's plenty of choice on the Jap Auction sites.

may be up for sale over the next couple of months depending on what I come across on the Jap websites - I'd ideally like a 00 GPX or GPvR manual - I just have to sell my GF's car first.

Zacob,
It all depends on the budget I guess, personally I'd upgrade to a manual mivec engine car. A manual FTO is always going to be more desirable and worth more than an equivalent auto...all other things being equal. Not wanting to step on anyones toes.. The GR tip is the least desirable of the 2L cars, i.e. less powerful engine combined with auto gear box. You are unlikely to recoup any serious money which you plough into sprucing up the car. I believe you're driving a '96?. For the price of your car + say a 3-4k you could get a newer car imported...again much more desirable..especially in the case of the FTO..as anything post '95 is a relatively rare site, and importing on mass has dried up long ago, so likely to remain quite rare for the foreseeable future. The more you spend on the current motor the less you are likely to sell it on.

If you drive a GPX would you ever think about going back to a GR?

I'm driving a GR manual, so I'm not qualified to answer....but I think I can safely say the answer is no!

For that alone I'd change (if I had an FTO). I had a tip GR and if I was to buy another FTO I'd only consider a manual facelifted GPX 8)

Myfeckin, you could by any chance post some links of these Japanese auction sites? I would like to have a look at some other places as well, and it would be nice to see where others are buying from.

I think you should sell and buy a manual, I have done just about everything to modify the looks of my car but I know it's still not what I want because it's tiptronic, sometimes I think about doing a straigt swap for an unmodified GPX manual
