Haha, the advantages of mi-vec. Well, do you like to smile? Cause if you do mi-vec puts a permanent grin on your face when she lets loose. Seriously though, I've never driven the non-mivec so I wouldnt know about them, but from a mi-vec point of view, once you hit the 6000 revs shes gets the extra boost for overtaking or something, I think its great anyway.

I can't think of any disadvantages, apart from the initial purchase price being higher.
The fact that it doesn't hit the limiter until somewhere near 9k means that you have a lot more choices of what gear to be in.
I love the sound of the changeover at 5500rpm, and the din the v6 makes after 7500rpm. the car is also very quick after the chageover too.

If you are talking about the white one on Carzone for ages, "buyer beware"

Seller does mention a new clutch and gearbox - I'd like to see the paperwork from that before I'd consider buying this FTO.

Still there are enough clean FTO's for sale at the moment not to have to take a chance.

I'm going to go against the grain here but if you're running a clean, well maintained manual GR, I'm not sure picking up a MIVEC is going to significantly increase the grin factor. Yes, MIVEC sounds great and gives you a small kick when engaged but the difference in performance between both models is not hugely significant on the road (even with the 27 extra ps). Top end is where MIVEC makes the difference, I would love to see a manual GR vs GPX in the quarter mile run this year to put the theory to the test.

Personally, I would much rather have a well maintained GR than a GPX with questionable history. Better the devil you know etc.

Oh and another thing - a tiptronic 4-speed GPX will struggle to beat a manual GR off the line. Transmission losses are a lot more significant in auto guise (c. 15%)

No pressure Seb! All GR owners on here will be waiting with baited breath for the outcome.

I reckon it'll be closer than people think. I'll stick my neck out and say that the Manual Mivecs will range from 14.8sec - 15.3 secs and Sebs Manual GR will come in with a nifty 15.2 sec run.

So you're saying Sebs driving skill will make up for his lack of MIVEC? or someones lack of driving skill will cancel out any gains MIVEC might have given them?

There are quite a number of factors I am taking into account including -
weight of FTO (I reckon Seb will strip that baby out), wheel size, condition of FTO and engine, balls and driver skill.

He won't have it easy - the mivecs running all seem to be excellent standard FTO's and there a bit of experience there as well. I for one am looking forward to it. 8)
