gauging intrest propper 1/4 mile

Postby d_dan » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:29 pm

well guys have been working on doing a propper 1/4 mile day in the near future.

have been onto lots of groups.....
and have 2 places that could facilitate the event...

there will be limited spaces available
so was wondering would people be up for it.

This is not finalised so guys please dont get your hopes up.

but intrest.
you would be looking at ;
1/3 mile strech
fully tarmacked
timed runs
time print offs

yup... official RUNWAY lenght,
1/4 mile + runoff

same for drag strips,
ya dont just have exactly 1/4 mile of track and then run out of road

Dan - you'll get any amount of cars for a 1/4 mile sprint if properly run.
The 1/4 mile in Limerick Racecourse every September always attracts big numbers - however track time, insurance and 1/4 mile timing gear hire doesn't come cheap. Whoever can pull off the holy grail of a good track (with enough space for a two car drag race), good timing equipment and a well run event could run several events a year and make good money out of it.

However I wouldn't anounce anything if I were you untill you have something more concrete to announce.

ahh yea i know!

we got close to getting a go ahead at an airfield last year at a private airfield but they were looking for us to insure the plains there up to a week after the event incase the runway was damaged and propellars were damaged.

ill be looking to keep numbers low for now!
and ill probably only work with owners clubs.

but like i said this is nothing concrete at the moment!
as this is my first time doing an event which needs insurance so thats what keeps catching me out. they look for alot more details than
the usual insurace cover i would be used to.

NOI, but the last event you organised nobody showed up to including yourself. This does not inspire confidence

Seb - 1/3 mile is obviously more than 1/4 mile - the extra length is just runoff area.
For example - in Limerick the track straight length was probably 1/2 mile but they used the remainder as a warm-up/staging and runoff area.

Dan - where exactly have you got in mind?

yup the extra bit is breaking distance.

one of the airfields in the aaron islands has a airfield thats only used 3 months of the year....

the other is well erm... well see cos this looks to be the more plausable one!

How do you propose to get a load of performance cars to the Aran islands - theres NO car ferries - passengers only! And this is the more plausible option?

Go on - Tell us! - What was the less plausible option? :smt037

We can break down the cars and smuggle them across in trenchcoats..

it might take a bit but we'll get there.. ;-)

Seriously though.. Nice idea D_Dan but I'd think it's not "just so" finding a good spot in the ROI - purely on the basis that if there were good spots there'd be a lot more events available.. as it is I only know of one event and that's up north, I think Seb went there.
