My suspension is a tad high...

Postby colm_mcm » Sun Aug 31, 2008 11:43 pm

Went to fit the Apex springs that have spent a few months in the boot of the car today,
When we had the first spring changed it came to light that the car had DCuatro lowering springs already fitted, and going on the 2 springs side by side, the ones I have are actually lower than the Apex ones.

I think the front of my car looks too high though. which was the reason I was changing, the shocks seem to be in perfect nick front and back, in that they're not noisy and they're not floaty.

Can anyone shed any light on it?

That is a bit strange. From the photo, I agree it looks a little high, especially when you compare it to the rear wheel arch.
If the Apex springs are new, they might seem taller because they haven't had the weight of the engine sitting on them for several months. I seem remember people saying it takes a couple of weeks for the springs to settle under the weight of the car?

From having seen your FTO at the Kerry meet I had already presumed it was running on lowered springs.

Presume the above pic is of the orig DC springs as the Apex would give a lower drop on the front than the rear?

Yeah, the pic is from when I bought the car. The original plan was to fit the Apex springs to the front, as I liked the level the back is at.
does anyone know the drop figure for these DC springs, or has anyone else had them?

The Apex springs came off another FTO.

Would the Apex front sprngs be lower than what I have now? should I have left them on the car to settle?

The Apex would be lower on the front and slightly higher on the rear than what you have on at the minute. Looks like its sitting on its haunches a bit with the DC's.

I don't think the angle of the photo helps either.. try getting a more "side on" shot..

But myfeckin' is right - kinda looks like it's lower in the back than the front..

hmmm....

do you reckon that the springs I took off the car would have expanded back to longer than the Apexs if I had left them off the car long enough?

Yip - The uneven ground is certainly not helping things - the inside front wheel has had to drop to compensate for the terrain.

Also Colm - what profile tyre are you running on those 17's?It looks like a 40 profile - a 45 profile would fill the arches much better - better comfort as well (at the expense of a little rubbing at full lock).

tyres are 215/40

dunno what do do, don't like the back being lower than the front. Apex should sort that.
