Tiptronic RF Paddel Shifter

Postby karlf » Fri Mar 27, 2009 2:26 am

I fitted one of these to the car today along with a replica Momo Millenium steering wheel. I was only out in it for about 20 mins but it is the "Dawgs Danglies". Here's a pic, its a bit dark so I'l get a better picture up tomorrow when its bright.

These are the shifters that markj113 had advertised on here (for those of you that may be interested). I have to say I'd definitely recommend them, I'm loving it so far.

Do they move with the wheel or are they fixed to the column?

Nice one Karl. I think this is a very tasty mod I'd probably be after if I had a tip.

If they're not fixed to the wheel, then making them RF was a bit heavy-handed.

Do these have batteries fitted karl?

They are not hard to fit at all. You need an aftermarket steering wheel and boss (momo) but its fairly simple. They come with very good, easy to follow fitting instructions. It has pictures to guide you as well, so its fairly comprehensive.
There is a reciever that gets power from the cigarette lighter and is also connected to the 2 micro switches on the tip gearbox. There is a little transmitter that sits inside the boss. That is battery powered but I would think it would last a long time before it would need to be changed. It would envolve taking off the steering wheel when this has to be done. But as it would be only once every now and again I dont see it as a problem.

They are able to move with the steering wheel. As Colm points out thats the reason they are RF, no need for cables so it doesn't need to be fixed in position.
I was wondering could you get a boss that would allow for the up/down swithces to be connected to it so there would be no need for RF and changing batteries?? I was thinking it could work like the horn.

If you got a boss from a model with an airbag, there would be extra wiring going to the wheel.
