The p/s pump needs to come. The fan definitely needs to come too and it will give you a lot more space if you take the radiator out. It can be done without removing it but if you don’t, you risk damaging the radiator.
I know how feel but stick with it and you'll get there.

Not sure how you guys are doing it, but I don't remember having to take off the power steering pump! I did have to undo the power steering pipe for a bit extra room but I don't believe I had to remove the pump.

Didn't touch any radiator either...

It was a pain at the time, the bolts for the cover were awkward to get at, and removing the crankshaft pulley bolt was a squeaky bum moment. Ended up getting lock tools to keep the cam wheels from springing out of place, but once it was all back together I was in business.

I’m going on memory here but as far as i remember to get one of the water pump bolts off you need to remove the engine mount from the block. To remove engine mount there are two bolts that are blocked by the power steering pump pulley. When i done this i removed the fan and left the rad in but, i should have taken it out as it would have given me a lot more space. Come to think of it there also might be one bolt behind the p/s pump mounting bracket as well.
As for locking the cams, if you can get your hands on lock tool it will make life easier. The cams on the rear head are spring loaded so be careful.
I didn’t have any tool so i just set everything to TDC before putting the new belt on.
I did have a big problem trying to open the crank pulley bolt and i had to make a tool to hold the pulley while i used a breaker bar on the bolt.

got it all sorted took the p/s pump off and took the rad out completely and flushed it. was loads of room with it out. ahd bother with the cams but as i'd marked the belt and pulleys good 10 places was easy to bring back into alignment. had to make own tool for the crank sprocket too. not a hard job just very very time consuming.
