In general a cold air induction kit will certainly help the filter to breathe better - however I don't know much about the make of this kit - its not a well known brand to me - like HKS or ITG etc - so its hard to give an opinion on how good its likely to be. But I will anyway

Its unlikely to have an adverse effect on reliability unless it fails to filter the air effectively.

Personally if I owned an S2000 (& I plan to) - I'd probably not put this kit into it - the S2000 is a v nice piece of kit - and I'd spend my money on something akin to a HKS induction kit - I have one on the 1.8 MX5 RS and it makes some sound alright. The HKS IMO also looks better than this kit and has a lot more credos.

It seems unlikely with the standard S2000 power output that Honda missed a trick with regard to the air filter - so you possibly do risk losing power - at best perhaps a small gain by going this route.

IMO you should shop around Adrian - if in doubt - buy HKS or similar.

Adrian, in order for it to be a CAI kit, the filter needs to be enclosed and connected to a ram air pipe, it doesn't look like these parts are included. You've already got a K&N on there, I'd leave it as is if I were you.

Yea, you're right. There is a cone filter as standard but it is enclosed by a plastic air box. I was not realy thinking about putting this exact one in as it does look cheap and I care more for my S2000 then I do for myself!!

So, what's the story then in just getting a filter...like a K&N. What extra would this give??

Adrian, if I'm not mistaken, I thought that the S2000 had a K&N cone filter as standard?

It's got a cone filter when you take off the plastic box...but it aint a K&N.

I was sure that the filter wasn't a green one, but obviously not! If so, its probably a paper design, you'd be as well to replace it with something decent if thats the case.

I'd tend to go with MfFTOs recommendations ie. HKS, ITG, K&N, Pipercross etc. I'm sure some of the lads over on the S2K forum can verify any performances gains from the various models.

Out of curiousity has anyone on here ever tried using a small (powerful)12V Fan to suck more cold air into the engine bay, thus reducing the air intake temp even more. I have been toying with the idea for a while, but would love to know if anyone has tried.

I was considering this a while ago, there was a discussion over on the FTOOC forums a while back on the same subject, the lads tended to think that it would have very little impact in terms of supplying additional airflow, I would tend to agree on that note.
