I guess you can, once you keep your rolling radius consistent with the tyres... you going for the drift look?

I asked the same question myself not long back, changing to 17s from my 16s in a month or two (waiting for better weather to christen my new rims :) ). The skinny spare - metal wheel + rubber tyre - has a particular diameter, which you should kept to as close as possible. Thus if you get a bigger wheel, get a tyre with a smaller profile.

For example, if you have 16 inch wheels, get a tyre with a profile of 50. 17s should have a tyre with 40 I think it is, so while the wheels get bigger, the tyre walls get smaller, and thus the diameter is kept the same.

18"

Postby IrishLad » Thu Jan 05, 2006 6:00 pm

I have 18" all round and the car is lowered. I used to have 18" rear 17" and the car just did not drive to well and it kept causing the front ARB bushes to wear down very quickly.

When I corner fast the front of the car tended to slide out as if there was no grip, the back end sat fine. The profile was 235/45 all round. So I ended up going 18" all round and now its fine.

What I have done is fitted TEIN adjustable's all round and highered the back end and lowered the front, only by a few mill but you can see notice it. Set the rear dampers 50% stiffer than the front. Now the car has the look and drives perfectly even under heavy load or fast cornering.

Hope this helps.
