Car Agencies

What is the story with these car agencies. They ring you out of the blue and tell you they will sell your car for you. Is this a scam or what.

Anyone have any experience with this.

pure scam - tell them you want €200 "handling fee" and they go away.

edit: wasn't from Cyprus by any chance?

No this is an english one. It is my "Dumd ass" brother in law. Has a car for sale on Carzone. They rang him, he gets onto me and I tell him its scam. He stiil gives payment and details.

Gets a call today from a guy in Uk who saya he wants the car and he will send cheque, once cheque clears he will come and collect the car.
Hope it is just the money he paid he loses and not hte car aswell.

THERE IS NO CONVINCING SOME PEOPLE

The bigger problem here may not be the money your brother has paid to date. Many of these guys won't stop till they get as much as they can from suckers.

For instance - a common scam is for the scammer to send over a bank draft for more than the car is worth (typically saying they are including shipping fees etc) and then asking for the difference back. The fake bank draft they offer will initially clear into the suckers account - the scammer will put presure immediately for the sucker to refund the difference - and a few days later the sucker gets a call from his bank to say the draft was a fake.

The scammer has NO interest in the car - they just want the money.
