Engine Oil light

Postby declanc » Tue May 31, 2005 2:44 pm

Need your help again!

the orange warning light (top right) comes on now and again, and when I opened the engine oil cap and looked in, to me it looks like its empty, and I know thats not good! When I bought the car, it came with a half drum of Engine Oil, do I just put that in and if so how much :?

Thanks!

You sure it's not the windscreen washer bottle light?

when I opened the engine oil cap and looked in, to me it looks like its empty

You'll be able to see oil on the inner surface. Use the dipstick to check the actual level. Don't mean to sound condescending but don't fill up the oil, to the point where you can see the oil level through the filler cap. :!: If so you'd have several litres too many in the sump, which is almost as bad as too little oil!

Declan - Oil light should be on the left side - take a look at attached link for info on warning lights.

After looking at the diagrams I'd go with Dave on this - sounds like the G-force meter ;)

FWIW you should monitor your oil levels by checking your dipstick about once a week (better safe than sorry)

I am assuming the light goes on if you take off too fast.

Havent pushed it much yet so probably havent seen this.

Hard acceleration is part of it Dean, its also lights up when you hit 0.5 G on cornering. See this link for more info.

Hehe, I dont know what you filled the washer bottle with mustang, but if I squirt the window with it my eyes start watering if I have the air-con on.

Its like pure concentrated evil.
