Slam panels

Postby Bernard » Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:34 am

I had a look on RB performance for slam panels but they only had ones with a cut out.

I mailed him last night on the off chance they could be done without it and he has replied already.
The option for a plain one should be there now :D

How cool is that?

What sort of price are you talking, 25 or 30 quid is fair enough I think, I find 48 pounds a bit expensive for a piece of steel.

To do this I will have to up an autocad drawing of the piece, which is no prob, but getting the FTO logo in, I am not sure how to.
Anyone have any ideas how I can embed a logo in the drawing. If anyone has FTO logo's or drawings they might like incorporated send them on to me and I will see what I can do.
Maybe a FTO-Ireland logo might be good.

Will work on this over the next few days (Thats is if the wife dont decide to have baby early)

I'm pretty sure that the FTO logo is the reason people haven't already got slam panels

What I was planning was to spray it black and give it a good polish, would a brushed finish make any difference?

Brush finish is textured so paint will adhere to it better.
Better to use stainless as no prob with rust afterwards

Rory, just go to insert, and select raster image. Pick from file then, have the pic of the logo as a jpeg, you can trace around it using a polyline then. Scale up the jpeg to fit into the outline of the slam panel. Any problems email the drawing of the outline of the slam panel to me and I'll draft it up for you in no time. PM me for my email if you want.

I got one of these off ebay and fitted it last week. The bonnet wouldn't close when I first fitted it. I had to move the lock bracket up a couple of mm to allow the bonnet to close. The bonnet doesn't sit completely flat now. It's raised couple of mm at the front. It's not so bad but it is a little noticeable. I'm not sure but I think it could be because of the rubber strip on the bonnet that stops the bonnet and radiator from rattling off each other when driving. It also could be like this because my radiator has slightly moved from the car getting in small collisions in the past. I'll take the rubber strip out and see if it make a difference. If it does I might thin it down a bit.
I'll post how I get on with it. It looks well anyway :D

I had a look into this, I was hoping that being able to produce the autocad drawings needed myself would save a bit of money. I (finally) got a quote just now, and for a minimum order of 7, I can get them in 1.2mm 304 (whatever that is) S/S for €29+VAT each, roughly €35. I was hoping they would be a bit cheaper to be honest, because after allowing a fiver for my own expenses (autocad work and travel to and from the place) and fiver for P & P, its €45.

I'm not sure if there'll be much interest at that price, but I just wanted to put it out there, and if nothing else, people can see the true cost of getting these made.
