car cutting out while driving

Postby vinny » Sun Oct 03, 2010 9:40 pm

my fto mivec's problems have got a little worse, the other day it actually died while driving it, felt like a fuel problem, when i tried to restart it, it seemed to fire on a few cylinders then stop, tried starting it about 10 times, then suddenly it started perfectly !! It did this twice the same day, then no problems for a few days. Drove it today about 20 miles - all good, left it an hour and it would not start, just seemed to fire on a couple of cylinders then cut out, tried this about 20 times. Left it for another half hour and it started perfectly? could it be a fuel pump relay breaking down????, oh by the way, when the problem arises it won't even start with your foot on the throttle???

can anyone help please, I have traced the problem, I pulled the plug off of the fuel pump, one of the wires is a blue and yellow, permanent live, there is a large black and yellow wire, it only has 9.8v running through it, when the car cuts out or fails to start, there is no voltage, if i give it a live, you can here the pump running properly and the car starts :-)
Is this related to a faulty fuel pump relay not giving full voltage, or is the fuel pressure controlled this way and i should be looking for some kind of regulator??? any help with the wiring of the plug and relays would be gratefully appreciated, thanks

I have traced the thick black and blue wire to the gold relay inside the dash tunnel, there is full voltage coming from that, so maybe there is a problem with my alarm fuel relay can I go direct from the gold relay to the fuel pump to bypass the immobiliser, as I cannot trace the wires?
