Took in a 98 Vr yesterday that was bringing on the engine fault light, Light would come on after a while idling, and would remain on until the accelerator was floored.
This FTO failed the NCT on extremely high emissions (tester told the owner it was the worst he had seen)
Diagnostic unit found code 41 stored in the ECU. Code 41 refers to INjector circuit problems. After checking all 6 injector circuits back to the ECU and no problems found. I then decided to check the TPS voltage to the ecu. It should be approx 1v at idle and 5 at WOT.
Multimeter was reading 5.5v at idle and did not change as the throttle was opened.
Removed a sensor from another FTO installed, it was also faulty. After fitting a third sensor and adjusting at idle the car now operates perfectly.
So for future ref code 41 can be caused by faulty TPS, this is not referenced to in the manuals.
This fault was causing the very high emissions, die to ecu over fueing at idle.
The sensor fitted to the 98 model is slightly diff to the 95-96 models but both work perfectly when swapped arround.
