VR4: aftermarket bonnet

Postby CJ » Sat Jan 31, 2009 3:01 pm

I'm considering hanging onto the VR-4, its never been running better and I'm enjoying the drive right now. Anyway, I'm thinking of throwing on an aftermarket bonnet like the one below (not another EVO style bonnet I hear you cry!), comments? Not to everyones taste I'm sure but I reckon this style gives a mean look to the frontend without going too over the top. That said, it may take a away from the sleeper look somewhat.

+1

It'd be a shame to ruin the sleek look she has at the moment, and as you say, it might detract from the sleeper look.

Nah - I'd spend the money on Brembos for the front first.

I quite like the Q car look your VR4 has at the mo, CJ - money better spent on performance or handling mods IMHO.

I hear ya fellas. Re Brembos, I'll wait and see. The recent addition of Carbotech pads up front has totally transformed braking at all speeds, the car stops so much quicker. The handling is reasonably spot on, the usual suspects have been changed, all other bushes are perfect and the Teins are a big improvment over the stock setup without significantly impacting the ride. Performance wise, the only other addition I'd consider at the meoment in an electronic boost controller, while the manual boost controller does a good job of increasing boost safely, I'd like to have the option of controlling boost right throughout the rev range. That and a set of downpipes would complete the package without having to go down the aftermarket / piggyback ECU route.

Heres another gratuitous Galant bonnet pic for posterity:

The second pic does look a lot better than the first. But it also seems to be a much darker looking CF than the first - a darker CF (or painted black CF) much look much better on your VR4 CJ.

The second pics is definitely better, but I still like the minimal look on that car. I think it'd be hard improve the look of yours at the moment.

I'd leave as is, existing bonnet is nice on it. I think the aftermarket one looks like someone was trying too hard or something. What you've done already is the proper look, minimal but menacing.

Christ no, don't do it! the bulges totally ruin the lines of the car, the bonnet and front end is pretty menacing as it is, this would totally cheapen the look of an otherwise classy car. It'll be feckin Lexus lights next.
