Dilogoat's 95 GPX

Postby Dilogoat86 » Mon Dec 07, 2009 12:31 am

Right so, I'm gonna start a thread just for my FTO...

First things first it needs photos but since I'm lazy at the very moment in time I'm going to just post the following;

1 204, SPF1700/16K SUPERFLEX - Front Polyurethane Anti Roll Bar Bushes - FTO (Except GPVR) GBP 7.10

1 208, SPF2004/18K SUPERFLEX - Rear Polyurethane Anti Roll Bar Bushes - FTO GX GPX Mivec 18mm GBP 8.40

1 418, CAMSKIT1029 CAMSKILL PRODUCTS Lowered Height Rear Droplinks GPX - GX - GPvR FTO GPX GX & GPvR GBP 23.44

1 151, CAMSKIT1024 CAMSKILL PRODUCTS Front Droplinks - Pair - FTO (Except GPVR) GBP 23.44

£77 including everything...but not including the discount. So hopefully it'll only be £70 which funnily enough is €77.

Did you make a topic to tell the world in a long winded fashion that you've ordered droplinks and bushings? :r

Teheh..

:ll You wont regret the investment.. It's the little things that'll sharpen the drive right up..

Did you make a check list of all the things you're wanting to throw money after for your fto?

I tried at one stage.. dangerous, but fun...

Yes. I planned to post nothing else after that. /LIE

This will be a thread not too unlike the mini thread I posted when I joined...eventually.

As for a list...I have indeed done a list;

Front & Rear Strut Braces,
Front & Rear droplinks, (Have)
Front & Rear ARB bushes, (have)
SS dial surround,
Dial rings (have)
Needle Cups,
EL Dials from FTO-Shop
Seat covers with FTO embroidered into headrest,
New 17" alloys,
Fancy up my engine cover,
Stonechip/waxoyle the underside of the car after I treat the seams/seals,
Flush the rear fog light off,
Reattach the rear wiper (possibly),
New pedal covers, (nothing too gaudy)
Some FTO-Ireland Decals,
Some SS bits for under the bonnet too, but that's on the long finger.
Currently in my collection:

It should only cost about €700 for all the bits bar the alloys. Add €250 for the bumper work in the coming weeks too. Should be interesting too since I have work to do on the Mini aswell.

I can vouch for that. I have a set too (not fitted yet) but I saw them on his car and they look and work well. Much better than the standard muck you'll buy in Halfords!

Personally I wouldn't look past the PIAA ones Camskill sell, I've had them fitted for the last couple of years.
Top quality wiper IMO.

They're top of the list too mate. But for £6.78 (I think) + delivery they're cheap as chips and more than do the job.

Yeah he was saying to me today they were PIAAs but indeed they are fecked. The passenger side one isn't too bad but the driver side one barely wiped properly.

Had meant to replace them with flat blades. mightn't be any harm getting wiper arms off a newer car, the ones on it aren't that black.

I heard Mazda RX8 ones go straight on.

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing about the wiper arms ;)

There were PIAA blades on there but they weren't doing the job. Fitted the new ones today and I can't complain - huge improvement!

Did the front droplinks last night. It was fun to say the least. The drivers side ones were practically fixed in place, but then I got a spanner on the back and it came off easily.

The passenger side however; this one was the starkey type with the round back. I got the top one off no bother...(impact drill ftw)...but the bottom one. I snapped 2 starheads in the process..and cracked my little finger knuckle off the underside of the trackrod end. Eventually it was loose but it wouldn't loosen any more than a few turns. Got a vicegrip on the back of it and had a HELL of a time getting it off. New ones fitted in literally 2 minutes. Then I discovered after all that, the droplinks were actually fine, it was the ARB bushes causing ALL the noise. I can literally move the ARB around with my hand. I'll wait until I get the ramp sorted to do those. They look like they're a bit fiddly to do.

Jesus... sounds like a job well done :-)

Would an angle grinder have been handier?

The set that was on mine when I bought it was so stuck that the bolteybits had to be grinded off.. :-)

There was a grinder within arms reach but I didn't want to risk wrecking anything else there unless I absolutely had to.

It's very east to cut the nut on the droplink with a mini hacksaw.

My advice is to spray the bolts liberally with WD40 a day or so before you take on the job, makes removal that bit easier.

I went to the FTO-Shop on Christmas day and ordered:

6000K HIDs
EL Dial Kit
SS Dial Surrounds,
SS Needle Cups.

Payment has been confirmed but shipping hasn't. Do they give you a tracking number when they ship?

I texted Daniel today, he's back Monday so I'll arrange something this week with him. :) I'm excited about it. I got the MG indicator lights before Christmas too so that was handy.
