I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

Can you let us know what you recommend for the following models:

Bought oil from these guys last week for the Zed - free oil filter thrown in.

Reasonable prices and some excellent quality oils that are difficult to get hold of over here.

Thanks for the welcome.

You have planty of choice for the FTO, it boils down to how good you want to go and how much you have to spend.

For standard un modified road cars on a budget you can go for a 10w-40 semi synthetic but this is and always will be the cost option.

Next up from there most are happy on a 5w-40 or 0w-40 full synthetic, moving to these is also advisable if the car is slightly modded and used with plenty of spirit, real good ones (ester based synthetics) are good for 130degc all day long so fine for track too.

For the very heavily modded engines, 10w-50 synthetic.

What engine oil and gear oil would you recommend for a GPvR? And how many litres for a complete change?

You don't have to go too skimpy on price either, I'd prefer to get something good.

For the engine, 5w-40 synthetic such as the Motul 8100 Xcess 5w-40 or the Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w-40, if you want to go all out the ester based Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Bump for oilman!

I've been using Amsoil lubricants for the past year and they come highly recommended (especially the ATF which is one of the very few commercially available trans fluids compatible with the Mitsi standard specified for use in our tip boxes).

Oilman, I've asked twice for your opinion on Amsoil products without any answer.....

We like them, that's why we sell them.

A bit expensive compared to Euro oils but then again they have to travel a long way to get here.

Good quality, not such good value is the honest answer
