Insuring a van?

I've been looking at getting a van for carrying my band gear around to gigs, but of course insurance is a disaster.

So now I'm thinking about getting an old estate car or good sized hatchback and using that instead, hoping that wouldn't cost much to insure.

Anyone any experience of this kinda craic, or can offer any pointers?

Kev.

Have you tried FBD? Probably the most competitive for commercial insurance

I heard that alright but they wouldn't even quote me, apparently what I wanted to use it for didn't fit into their criteria or something like that? Weird, I would have thought I'd be on the low risk end considering I'd only be using it for gigs (couple of times a month probably).

I was looking at this a while back, I only contacted FBD and my own broker. The broker could not help until I was >30. The problem is that you would likely be starting with no NCB (unless you have a spare one form another vehicle, or you can split your current one) I was happy enough with the fbd quote. My own insurance company would offer an introductory 2yrs NCB on a commercial policy if over 30. Ring around.
A van for personal use will surely be cheaper to insure than a car, no?
