Bought an Fto the 8th of this month! Failed the NCT on exhaust admissions! Gutted advance pit stop quoted me over 1100.00 euro to fix??? HELP!!!!

Is it exhaust rusted through or emissions over the limits?

well... whatever it is, 1100 euro is astronomical amount.
They probably give you the prices from Mitsubishi but you won`t need these parts...
There is loads of performance aftermarket parts for FTO and they`re much cheaper than Mitsubishi stock. You can also get used parts from brakers.
Just tell us what you need exactly

It failed on the admissions being too high! Advanc said I need a new middle box for the exhaust that there is two holes in the one I have, also they say I need new break calliber's that the bolt's are sticking? They say all these part's can't be got in Ireland they have to come in special order from England?

Thank's ha... It's a mivec V 6 Manual, Spottless car now not a scrape on the body work, It's a 95 only 69,000 klm's up on her like. Stressed out to the last now over it only had it 2 week's Sat & being quoted 1100.00 euro already? I bought it private so I've no comback!

It wont cost you 1100e to fix that stuff.. try the numbers in the other thread - you'll be able to get those parts way cheaper..fitting is a doddle as well and can be undertaken by any mechanic that knows the right way around a spanner..

Hi Marie,

I am based in Limerick for Work - live in Clare.
If you like I can give you a number for my mechanic in Limerick who has always worked on mine and friends FTO's.

Advance Pitstop is a rather silly place to bring an FTO if you have problems with it - they won't have an iota where the best place to get relavant parts is - they'll likely just buy off a main dealer and you'll pay through the nose for OE parts as opposed to uprated and cheaper aftermarket parts.

Welcome aboard Marie. A hole in the exhaust is one thing, failing on emmissions is another. Be sure you know what parts are required before you go on a spending spree.
Holes in the centre section of the exhaust are quite common at that age.
Failing on emmisions could be lambda sensor, catalytic converter, etc.
As you are based in Limerick you should come along to the Limerick race course meet this weekend. It would be a good opportunity to meet some peeps from this site and there'll be plenty of us around to offer advice etc

Hi Marie,
As already said, Advance aren't the people to deal with here. Either take MFFTO's advice or grab a mate who who's a bit of a petrol head and go to a local guy to fix it. There are plenty of sources here for the parts.

Congrats - you won't regret buying the FTO, this is just a hiccup.

Most FTO's will fail on emmissions if they aren't 'prepared' correctly before NCT. In other words drive it REALLY HARD before the NCT, blow all that stuff out the back and get the oil temps etc up high as possible. Then leave it running when you go in to pay the NCT. Often they won't look at a car for 30 mins or so and what happens is engine temperature drops as well as the temp of the cat and the chokes can kick back in. I think the NCT do this deliberately sometimes so you have to come back! Money making gig and all that
But don't worry it will get sorted and for a lot less than a grand. Welcome by the way

I completly forgot about this before my test... just 10 min drive to the NCT centre and went on cold engine. Passed straight through

Hi Marie

Congrats on the New FTO. I've been looking through your posts and was disappointed to see that you had so many teething problems with it. I'm surprised too as I had that FTO for over 6 years and looked after it really well until I sold it early in the year.
That spoofer you bought it from must have treated it like crap.
Hope everything is going well with it now and all the problems are ironed out.

Don't necessarily agree with last comment. I had happy trouble free motoring with mine for 7 years, then in the last 6 months I have had Stepper, Starter, Water Pump and Heater matrix all pack it in on me.

I suppose things need to go sometime when you're driving 12 year old cars

The thing is, this car was NCT'd in January of this year with a new starter motor, recent stepper motor, new tyres, new brakes and a multiple of bits and pieces.
My mechanic went over everything with a fine tooth comb but as you point out, it's a 12 year old car and things will go wrong which is one of the reasons I sold it.

Things will go wrong with much newer cars also. In comparison to most cars of its age, the FTO is a very reliable machine and all of the common problems are well documented on sites such as this. I wouldn't like folks to think that the FTO is a bad buy on the basis that things can go wrong with it.
