Water leaking above A pillar

Postby Uncle B » Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:15 pm

Think I have the right name there, passenger side. Its wet above the door seal and under the sun visor bolts etc. I'll get pics when I get home but reckon its the sunroof?

Anyone any ideas based on that terrible description?

I had a similar problem on a previous car (not an FTO). There is normally a 'drain pipe' that run from the sunroof well, down along the A pillar, and drains somewhere at the front of the car. What can happen is that the drain pipe exit gets clogged, causing the water to back up, and ultimately overflow at the top of the A pillar. Check the entry to this pipe at the top of the pillar for clogging. Pour water down it (sunroof open, bonnet open) and see where it exits? Does it back up? If so check exit point for clogging.

^^ what Mustang said

had the same problem with one of my cars in the past , turns out the draining pipes were blocked and all the rain water was coming back in the car .
use a stick or some sort to unblock the pipes

Thanks guys, had a look and used a bit of cord to shove down the "drain pipe". Got rid of a small bit of sludge but not that much, will wait 'til it rains and see how we're doing.

Thanks again.

Bit of an update on this... Its still leaking... (or is it a leak at all?)

I pulled away the roof carpet and there seems to be small amounts of water everywhere so I reckon it might be condensation?

I've poured water down the drain and sprayed water onto the sunroof and no water is leaking out anywhere.

Could it be due to the cold weather we're having that its become more apparent?
