Universal Lambda

Postby Kace » Fri Jun 06, 2008 5:19 pm

Anyone purchased a Lambda sensor off eBay or elsewhere ? If so can someone confirm the wirecount for me (4, 3, 1 ?)

The one listed on Camskill must be a mistake as it is listed at more than £300 - the ones on eBay are about £15.

Anyone shed any light?

Hi
Just about to buy one of ebay myself.
Still trying to figure out which one to buy.
I know for certain there are 4 wires on the sensor but as to wireing them up im at a loss.
A few people have recommended the universal sensor but they all seem to come with different colored wires so
If anyone else has fitted one of these lambda sensors i would be gratefull for you suggestions

Anyone have the link to the instructions as to how to wire up a universal lambda? Link above no longer works...

Guys Can anyone shed some more light on the universal lambda sensor. From what I can gather so far it appears to be a 4 wire universal type. But that doesn't seem to narrow it down there seems to be several other sub categories -wideband, narrowband, titania, etc.
Can someone specify the size and type of the sensor. Also do all the universal ones come with flying leads only (which require soldering and crimping etc). A universal plug, with a universl to 'mitsubishi' adaptor (similar to the type that can be got for car stereos ,etc) would be much handier. Does such a thing exist?

PS. My car just failed NCT emissions test - so it's not just idle curiousity -help please :smt100

Can't speak for the FTO here but when I scraped off my last lamda sensor on the Zed (too low to the road), I enquired as to cost from a Nissan dealer - 450Euro. Bought a universal 4 wire type on ebay for 15euro and it worked perfectly though it did require a bit of crimping (cut the old connection off).

OT - but while I'm on here - a throttle relay went in the Zed last week - nissan quote 1000Euro + Vat for the unit (don't sell relays individually) - quote from the states for the exact part comes in at 7 dollars + 15 dollars shipping.

Goes to show how you can get shafted by dealers if you don't have any mechanical knowledge.

Anyone with CAPS, care to look up the mitsi part number for the Lambda sensor -and check the cross compatability -surely it's common to some other model.

Mustang, p/n is MD312191, its specific to the FTO. I'd be inclined to go the universal lambda route.

Did NCT flag high emissions?

Thanks CJ. Yea I'm gonna go with the ebay lambda sensor first, at that sort of money I've nothing to loose. The price of the one on camskill is an outrage :smt076
Emissions results as follows:
Low idle pass

High idle
Lambda 0.825 Pass criteria 0.97 to 1.03
CO 6.6 vol% Pass criteria below 0.3%
HC 243ppm Pass criteria below 200ppm

I did take the car for a spirited drive beofre hand and left it running outside while I went in. However the indicated oil temperature was only 86degC, I'm pretty sure it was 110 degC the last time -must check.
