Potholes !&**??@**

Postby soc » Wed Mar 15, 2006 1:09 pm

I hit the mother and father of all potholes last night!!! I was exiting from Feltrim Lane just before the M50 (at Darndale) and just where they're putting in that new roundabout I hit this fecker!! It was like driving straight into a high curb!

Anyway, as soon as I got on the motorway I noticed straight away there was vibration from the front wheels so I figured the tracking was knocked out.... but then I got up this morning and saw my front drivers side was almost flat - at the garage I could see it was at 10psi. So I pumped it up but while doing so there was a squealing noise like air being squeezed out of the tyre. Although the tyre pumped back to 32psi I suspect I may have either punctured (in some way) the tyre or knackered the wheel........ will have to wait until lunch to check if it's gone down again!!!

VERY ANNOYING!

Pot holes are made by the devil in his lorry..
..sounds like you'll be needing a new tyre - hope you didn't bend the rim too..

I better not be needing a new tyre - I only got the damn thing fitted about 3 months ago, I'd rather have to get new rims ;)

I'm gonna talk to my solicitor too cause I'm f**ked if I'm paying road tax and then having my car wrecked by f**king unmarked potholes

Sweet - that suits me cause I'm pretty sure the pothole in question was actually a trench that was dug during the ongoing roadworks around the roundabout.... if there's any damage I'm going out there tomorrow to get some photos!

when taking photos, make sure you put something in to scale it by, (ruler video cassette etc) anything that the judge can look at an immediately conclude, about 10 years ago i was turning left into a hotel, the front left wheel got caught in a pothole and jammed solid, the car just spun around and broke the sub frame ! ouch , didnt get a penney , Good Luck, Also why dont you get a mate to report it now, then say yours happened 10 days from now !

Only lost about 2 psi today but seeing as I checked the pressure when the tyres were cold there's scope for a variance. Topped up to 32psi front and 30psi rear on the way home (and no squealing noise when doing the drivers front) so I'll check them again in the morning but fingers crossed there's no real damage. Although I do have a very slight bulge in the drivers front now which is VERY ANNOYING as the tyre is an almost new F1 GSD which costs around 180 euro!! I'm fecked if I'm replacing it unless it gets worse though.

Strange how the pressure had dropped to 10psi this morning though cause it definitely wasn't that low last night before I hit that pothole.....

Maybe you have a slow puncture... I keep having to pump one of the rear tires on the GFs car... Noticed it looked a bit flat last night - pumped it this morning - was at 5!!

Maybe one of those cans of tyrefix or whatever it's called is in order?

AFAIK they're only temporary fixes. If it keeps dropping pressure I'll get it checked for a slow puncture and if neccessary get it fixed.

Briefly read thread and i'm not sure if anyone mentioned but you can actually make a claim to the Corpo. A mate of mine buckled two front wheels on his BMW after hitting a pothole near the Naas Road. He rang them up and they sent out a claim form. He went back, photographed the scene, billed them for two new wheels and two hours of his time and eventually got paid. Taxi drivers do this a lot apparently!

A few years back, mate of mine who lives in Wicklow, his GF hit a 'rock' which was growing out of the side of the back road from Greystones to Wicklow town. Wrote off the tyre and rim, also damaged the suspension. They paid up without question for the whole lot. The 'rock' is still there today but now it has a yellow line painted beside it so - in theory - nobody else will hit it!! guess the paint was cheaper than sending out a crew to remove it...
