Wanted - Please -> Rear Bumper <- - Sorted -

Postby Muad_dib77 » Fri Oct 21, 2005 11:54 am

Is there anybody out there with a steel silver rear bumper they want to part with?

As long as it's not bent it has interest.

I just messed mine up on the way to work this morning.

thanks.

Stupid thing... really... got caught out by leaves and water. Took a spin - hit pole.

Just ordered a set of new tail lights. (Got them from a scrapper in the uk!)
Going to the panel beater in an hour or so

The Rear panel is bent - so the boot doesn't shut tight any more - my mechanic was saying it would probably add up to about 2000e.

But I also need a new bumper.

Totally my own fault. I wasn't paying attention, and I never had that balding rear tyre replaced.

Jeez - you're not having a lot of luck with this car. :?

Use this as an opportunity to buy an aftermarket bumper - I like the DC rear. And use a recommended bodyshop!

Oh yeah!

It's just ..I'm kinda broke..with xmas and all just around the corner..

I went and got a quote from Declan Waters..

600 euros (with me sourcing the parts.) doesn't sound bad.

Respraying the rear quarter.
Respraying the bumper I'm getting (which ever type it might be)
Straightening the back panel
Straigthening the boot lid (tiny dent in corner)
Spraying boot lid

that for 600 squid - sounds like value for money..

Does anybody have any experience with them.. was in their shop - looks real tidy. Busy but Tidy.

Just ordered a replacement standard bumper.

100gbp!

Found A breaker in the UK - he has everything in stock!

Two lights = 80gbp
bumper & brackets = 100gbp

Shipping should work out at about 50gbp

could have been worse... still annoyed that I messed up though... I could have spent this money on petrol & tyres.

Or smelly stuff for the lady...

That sounds pretty reasonable to me, where are they based by the way?

Nice on, I've to pick up the car up off Discount Tyres in Rosemount in an hour (2 new wheels going on), I might drop into them while I'm there. I've a little bit of work that needs doing, seeing as mines steel silver, we might get a discount on the paint ;)

Just don't forget the many shades of steel silver there are out there - I've yet to see an FTO with the same shade as my own. Its not an easy paint to match.

I made sure to tell yer man at Declan Waters that I wanted an exact match - not like the present one..

He did say that the color was waaaay off... Both CJ and my mechanic agreed with me..

My Mechanic even went as far as.. "That has way too much blue in it, that there. That's not a good job."

I may have totally destroyed what work I had done on the car 2 weeks ago .. but I still feel that Davy (See other thread about me being crassed in to) made a mess of my car.. Atleast now that I've messed it up myself there's a chance it might be fixed properly..

(Somehow I don't really think this thread belongs in the FOR SALE cat any more).

I know, I was jokin' ;) I went up this afternoon and they checked the car over, they did mention that they colour match each car rather than just use paint off the shelf. They quoted me €450 for work that I previously had quoted at €600 so they're pricing is certainly keen, they seem pretty professional so I think I might give 'em a go.

That is pretty cool. I hope our instincts are correct.

I can't wait for November the 2nd to come.. (this will be when I get my Baby back from them).

She looks well battered at the moment.. Might actually take a few pics and post them tomorrow - just for the fun of it.

Some how I've managed to completely break both tail lights (housing and all) - but all the bilbs are still working. What are the odds?

Dropped the car into Declan Waters this morning to get a few bits and pieces sorted out, I should be picking it up later on tomorrow so I'll let you know how it works out.

Hey Maud, Maybe u should listen to the advise 'Never drive faster than your angels can fly'.

Get up earlier and leave earlier. All this crashing and speeding has me concerned.

Yours worringly

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.

:-) I never drive fast IP...I just drive like sh1t3... :?

Just got my parts from the UK yesterday. Lights look amazing...and bumper is in good condition..However 1 thing I forgot to take in to account.. those poor bastards in the UK have to fit a rear fog light to their rides, as a result some of them mount these in the rear bumper.
Guess what..
the bumper I recieved has a poxy rear-fog light fitted in it. GAH. Was just talking to the Declan waters lady and "the lads" think they'll be able to sort it out.

Got car back from Declan Waters last night.

The color match is very good - extremely close imo. The only reason I can tell that theres a difference is a little "spot repair" they did on a old battle scar from Japan.
The lads filled the hole where the nasty fog-light was - and I can't tell where the filling starts and stops. Very nice job!
Boot lid looks straight - has straight shut line.
Inside of boot is straight again.
Reseal at bottom inside boot looks quite clean - no waste sealant - and it's sprayed to match color.

All in all - a very tidy job.

When I picked up the car Declan (himself) was there and we had a good long chat. I must have been there for 45min. or so.
He remembered CJ, so I thought I'd tell him about our little online community.

After having a good long chat we had to sort the nittygritty - I had been qouted 600 euros for the basic work - but this was before I'd asked them to do the fog-light filling. Initially I'd been told that the fog-light filling would be extra.

I paid no more than 600euros for a job I know wasn't all that small.

I'd definately go there again.

CJ - any thoughts?

The work they my own was of a very high standard and the colour match was excellent. I had one or two gripes however - there was a run in the clearcoat on the quarter panel / drivers door seal and there was overspray on one of the rear wheels and the boot. These are pretty minor details but its a pity they didn't pay attention to the finish, otherwise the job was excellent. I'm dropping the car into them on Monday to get the bits sorted out.

Ah yeah that is a bit of a pity.. but hey - atleast they're sorting you out & admitting that they made a mistake - which is more than some other less professional places would have done.
