Something fell off my car :(

Postby RussMan » Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:03 am

Eh... Was doing a sharpish U turn and managed to clip the underside front passenger side off a kerb... Anyway was only minor until i reversed and say a small Black Box about 1/3 foot cubed in size. I'm not even sure its mine  It could of been what i hit and assumed it was mine.
I've picked it up and have it in my car ... Any suggestions as to what it is and whether i've done a big boo boo.... This happens after i scratch one of my newly refurbished alloys on a curb the day before... Why oh Why

To the best of my knowledge there isn't anything boxed on the underside of the car - but post a picture if you can.. I'm happy enough to stick my head under my car to try and locate a similar item..

you're not having much luck with Kerbs mr. man ;-)

there is an air reservoir box about the size you describe that is under the passenger side footwell. In fact I'd say its this as its the lowest point on that side of the car. It's nothing serious if thats what it is. It is a small cube that is part of the OE airbox induction pipe to ensure there is always a reservoir of air to feed the airbox/filter.

That sounds about right - if you've ditched the stock induction then its nothing to worry about.

Stick your head up under your front bumper you should be able to see where it came off - as far as I recall it attaches to a black plastic pipe - same type as the air intake.. It's really good for picking up dirt and muck.. Make sure the pipe is still firmly inplace or remove it altogether if it's rattly..
As CJ says if you;re not using the standard airbox you'll be grand.

Thats what it is and its attached normally to the induction pipe work as a catch can of sorts .. I took all my plastic induction stuff out recently coz I fitted one of those funnels you cut a hole on ya bumper for

Basicly it catches rubbish coz when I took mine out it had all sorts in it

If ya new induction kit intake sits where the original does then I would run a new pipe to feed it and remove the old stuff all together.

BTW that box aint normally detachable so must have snapped off

Del :D

It snap'd alright... I must take a look see and take out all of that old induction kit crap. Want to do this at the same time as removing air con because it doesn't work well and sometimes a really cold white mist comes out of my vents when i turn on the air con so its time to go!!!

Think i might do a how to on that if one doesn't exist.

The bolts are 1 behind the fog pod on off side front bumper and I think there is 1 just under where the slam panels get fitted
