E85 Prices

Hi guys,
With the price on conversion kits coming down and the price on petrol going up I'm putting some serious thought into getting a "flexi fuel" kit installed.
A crucial part of the process though is to know the cost of e85 though. Does anybody know if there's a "price watch" type site that will show the current prices of e85?

Try this site

What would it cost to convert over to E85 and is it a big job

It'll cost between 300 and 600e.. installation is dead simple.. provided you're going for a converter kit..
I've made this quick little sheet..
Update the figures at the top and calculations and the graph will adjust accordingly.
e85.xls
file is available for the next 89 days..
Here's an installation video

Now - keep in mind you'd need to find a kit with the right connections..

It's 25% cheaper, but 25% less fuel economy or something like that right? anyone have the figures for how the MPG compares?

I've heard that somewhere else - but that's not what I've seen with e5 over standard petrol..
Here's an article on it...

loads more if you google it..

yeah, E5 drop in mpg would be unnoticeable really. It's only 5% ethanol. E85 is 85% ethanol. ethanol is less calorific than petrol. less energy from the same volume. but higher octane rating.

uhm yeah true true..
Looks like there might be a drop of 20-30% mileage wise according to the various articles. I guess if that is the case from a financial point of view you'd end up pretty much where you're left with e5 seeing as you'd need to refuel more often.

E5 actually increases your fuel economy because it's higher octane than the standard muck we get here and thus burns more completely, realeasing more energy.
However because ethanol has lower energy content than petrol, as you increase the percentage the fuel economy begins to fall.

Looks suspiciously easy. There's a guy in the Nissan SX owners club, who remapped his car to run on E85 (only). Some massive bhp >300bhp. But Ithink he also had to change injectors and possibly the fuel pump.

Yeah he went for the full power conversion (it was JP or something right? Red Jobbie I think).. Afaik he had the power fc commander and a full map set up. That car would only run on e85.. but it was da bomb so to speak...

Wow that's somewhat of a price hike isn't it?
Somebody told me 95cents just the other day..
Man, I wish there was some way of tracking this..

I live very close to a maxol station but their billboard only seems to have two inserts, so they aonly advertise the unleaded E5 and diesel. You don't find out the price of the E85 until you lift the hose.

Maud,
Just to update this (the EMO price I gave above doesn't seem to make sence -too high for E85, too low for unleaded).
Anyway called into my local maxol last night. and checked the price of E85 at the pump. 97.9 cent per litre.
