Buckled alloy wheel

Postby CJ » Mon Sep 26, 2005 2:46 pm

One of my alloys is buckled, I have it on the rear at the moment so its not impacting on steering response too much, that said, I reckon it is impacting the ride quality. From what I've read on the web, getting an alloy straightened out is pretty difficult, does anyone have an insight into this?

Plenty of UK companies that can sort out buckled alloys but I don't know of any Republic of Ireland companies that can sort this.

Ok then - what you'll need -

1 lump hammer
1 buckled wheel

Apply lump hammer several times to buckled wheel.
Replace on car - Still buckled? Repeat step one untill sorted.

I seem to remember one of my mates saying this crowd in Carlow fixed his buckled alloy. They're called Tallon Wheels 059-9156179, I can't vouch for them though as I never dealt with them but it could be worth giving them a buzz.
I never knew driving could be so much fun

Thanks for the info guys :)

I'm also inverstigating the possibility of buying a replacement wheel, I believe that reshaping an alloy can introduce its own problems in terms of overstressing the metal structure.

CJ why don't you put a 'wanted' thread in the for sale section along with the model and description of the wheel. Unlikely to yield a result but we could keep an eye out for you!

I'm actually looking at one or two sources at the moment but if any one happens to have a spare 7x17 AEZ Icon 5 knocking around the place, give me a shout ;)

Yes, of sorts but it happened ages ago, you might remember I had a slip on the ice which resulted in a cracked bumper (hence the facelift), the wheel also got a knock during that bump.

Hey mate, can you point me in the right direction then, preferably in the Midlands. I've got 4 buckled Mille Miglia Spyda's. Don't ask me how it happened ... I have no idea. Came to light when I had them refurbed. I didn't know you could get them fixed.

It does affect the ride quality .... slight juddering at 70

JJ - Its been 5 years since I lived in the UK - my memory isn't that good - never had to use this service - just came across quite a few while over there. I'm sure the guys on the UK forum could shed some light on a few places.

Ended up replacing the two damaged wheels and the ride has improved big time, the combination of no buckles and balanced wheels has cleaned the handling up nicely.

Can I just add that I went to the same place this morning..and they take their jobs very seriously..

A lovely bunch of lads - very professional - they take the time the job needs.

And they don't mind a bit of chat...

Was talkign to one of the owners - a super guy..

Oh and they actually remembered CJ - as being the guy with a car just like mine who got two new alloys fitted. :-) ..also.. they remembered fto-ireland.com

How cool is that?

Yeah, the owner Rob is pretty customer focused, he's keen to get the car clubs on side with a discount scheme in mind.
