Decat pipe gains?

Since it seems that remove the cat is common on these cars, can anyone say how much power is gained, either be feel or dyno results?

I don't want to try it as it's highly illegal in the country the car is in, however I was hoping to see if buying a high flow cat would be a good investment?

A high flow cat would be a bad investment. It will give you nothing really and probably cost you a few hundred euro.

The car is in Australia and the laws are pretty tough there.

I forgot to mention, the car has RPW headers, 2.5" mandrel exhaust, +5mm TB, ported heads and piggyback ECU. Not sure what cat is on it atm, but I doubt it's anything good.
So would there be no power gains on the assumption that everything else is stock, or are there no power gains as cats cause minimal restriction to begin with?

To be honest if you have an exhaust upgraded exhaust, manifolds and downpipe you are best to get a highflow.

As this is about the same as building a big motorway and having single lane traffic for a few miles of the motorway.

If you are not going to run a decat then at least run a highflow with your above mods.
Remember that a decat will be easy to bolt in or out in any case for whatever the Aus equivalent is of the DOE/NCT

No point in upgrading your manifold/downpipe/mid & rear section of your exhaust and then using an OE Cat in the middle.
You will see much better gains than someone just changing to a Decat on the OE exhaust. It might be v loud though.

Now might be a good time to upgrade your plugs (colder iridiums) /fuel pump/injectors/fuel pressure regulator etc and you might also want to think about mapping.
Everytime you make a change you'll find the next weak link - thats what makes modding so flipping expensive.
The above is as far as I'd personally mod an FTO (unless going the engine change route).

I am unsure what the current cat is, as I had the FTO motor put into an Asti and the garage fitted the exhaust.
As for mapping I don't plan on driving the car before it goes for a tune, this will happen a bit later on though.

any friends that are welders .Get them to hollow out the middle of the cat. then make the flanges at ider side, bigger on a lath or some thing ,to bring the size of the flanges up to above 2.5 inchs.Then slide in a 2.5 inch pipe and weld it in, put it back on. for looks there is a cat in it, if its tested the cat is fooked ya have to get a new 1 hey presto hahaha
